Plantronics Voyager Legend Review

Plantronics Voyager Legend

Plantronics Voyager Legend Review – The newest Bluetooth headset from Plantronics, the Voyager Legend, enhances the design that works in the older Voyager Pro HD model.

The updated model takes what works and makes them better in Voyager Legend. Not to mention the new Smart Sensor technology (auto-detect when you put the headset on or take it off your ear) that I’ve found only recently in newer Plantronics headset models.

The packaging comes with different ear gels so you can pick the right size for your ear and also multiple power adapters for different countries, perfect for travellers.

Plantronics Voyager Legend Review – Design & Features Impression

The Plantronics Voyager Legend is definitely not the most compact Bluetooth headset and that is because of the rather large unit with a microphone boom that stretches all the way to your cheek.

Before you start frowning and going to browse for a more compact Bluetooth headset (like the M55, MARQUE M155, M100, or Savor M1100), this bulkier design actually comes with some awesome treats. It is because the team has put more stuffs inside which allows you to experience a better audio calling and streaming experience.

For a start, the Voyager Legend has one of the best audio quality headsets from Plantronics, all thanks to the multi-microphones inside the unit that optimise your voice and reduce outside noises like the wind and noisy chatter (3 microphones and 3 layers of wind protection). It is hard to tell you about the experience in a written review but there are great demos on the official product page if you want to hear the difference.

One of the things I like best is the Smart Sensor Technology from Plantronics. It’s a sensor that detects when you put on or take off your headset. This works best when you are constantly switching between the headset and your phone to make/receive calls (or for audio streaming). For example, I don’t always wear the headset all the time and the whole day, so I normally place the Bluetooth headset on the desk. When a call comes in, I can now put it on and the Smart Sensor Technology will detect this and route my call to the headset. Low battery while on call? Take it off and quickly grab your phone to continue your chatter, uninterrupted.

When listening to music, I can simply take the Voyager Legend off straight away and the music will pause (the headset will also lock the Call button so you can’t accidentally press the call button when you are not wearing the headset). Put it back on and a second later, the music resumes. This is awesome. The music will also be paused automatically when there is an incoming call through the headset.

Voyager Legend also announces the caller’s name and you can speak “Answer” to answer the call or “Reject” to reject it, which is handy if your hands are preoccupied on the steering wheel, for example.

The headset itself is really comfortable to wear and the ear-loop design makes the headset steady around my ear even when I’m not sitting or standing still. It also has a protection coating by P2i from moisture like sweat, water, and even a coffee spill (though I’m a bit reluctant to test this one out). You can also wear the Voyager Legend in either your left or right ear, thanks to the design team.

A few buttons located in different areas on the headset to change the volumes in multiple steps, turn on/off, and other audio playback controls that you can refer to at the included user guide. Besides the volume control and power button, I rarely use them as I can always use the voice command to make/receive calls easily with the device. I can also comfortably use Siri with the Plantronics Voyager Legend so I pretty much can do almost anything by voice.

I also love the charging dock solution compared to the usual micro USB cable on the other Plantronics devices. Though this means that you need to bring an extra short cable with you (assuming you have a smartphone that is already using a micro USB cable). You can charge the Plantronics Voyager Legend using the power adapter or through USB in a laptop or desktop.

The charging dock is also magnetised so your Voyager Legend will snap into place, making it even easier to “dock and charge” rather than having to fiddle with a micro USB connector.

Plantronics Voyager Legend

The Voyager Legend audio quality is superb and clear that I have no complaints whatsoever. I honestly haven’t tried the headset in the noisiest environment like a busy restaurant or in a party, but judging from the demo audio, you should be happy to know that Voyager Legend should work just fine in such places.

If you don’t mind with the microphone boom design, the Plantronics Voyager Legend should be on the top of your shopping list for a Bluetooth headset this year.
