PITAKA has released its latest range of iPhone 18 Pro cases, with a few main case types available depending on whether you want something extremely thin, more protective, or somewhere towards the premium end of the range. The new collection that I got here today consists of the PITAKA Edge, Cairn and Summa cases, all using the brand’s familiar aramid fibre construction while taking slightly different approaches to thickness and protection.
If you have just picked up an iPhone 18 Pro and are looking at PITAKA cases, the differences between the three are worth knowing before choosing one.
PITAKA Edge Case
The PITAKA Edge Case is the thinnest and lightest option in the iPhone 18 Pro range.
PITAKA describes Edge as its minimalist case and, depending on the particular design, it sits at around 1.2mm thick on average and weighs roughly 22g. It is designed primarily for those who want some everyday protection without adding much additional bulk to the iPhone 18 Pro. PITAKA lists Edge as providing daily protection rather than the stronger drop protection offered by Cairn and Summa.
The main material is aerospace-grade aramid fibre, combined with PITAKA’s Mammoth Resin to reinforce the structure. There is also a raised lip surrounding the camera area.
Another notable feature is PitaTap, PITAKA’s solution for Camera Control. Rather than simply having an exposed opening around Camera Control, Edge integrates an aramid fibre Camera Control area designed to remain responsive when using the phone.
MagSafe compatibility is also built in, so you can continue using MagSafe chargers, wallets and other magnetic accessories. And I have been using my phones on a PITAKA case without issues on my MagSafe accessories for the past years.
I have three different Edge designs here for the iPhone 18 Pro.
The Sunset 2.0 California Dream is particularly thin at around 0.99mm and weighs approximately 17.9g. It combines the woven aramid fibre construction with PITAKA’s colourful California Dream design.
There is also the more understated Burgundy Edge Case, measuring around 1.30mm thick and weighing approximately 25g. It’s a perfect case for those picking up the iPhone 18 Pro Burgundy colour.
Finally, the Over The Horizon 2.0 version comes in at around 1.34mm and 21.53g.
While their appearances and exact dimensions vary slightly, all three are fundamentally built around the same idea: keeping the iPhone 18 Pro as thin and light as possible while adding MagSafe compatibility and some everyday protection.

PITAKA Cairn Case
If you want something more substantial, the PITAKA Cairn Case is designed specifically around drop protection. Where the Edge largely focuses on keeping things thin, Cairn combines an aramid fibre exterior with impact-resistant TPU and PITAKA’s Bow-Arc Corner Buffer 2.0. The idea is to give vulnerable areas such as the corners significantly more cushioning when the phone is dropped.
According to PITAKA, Cairn has been tested for drops from up to 2.44 metres and meets MIL-STD-810H testing requirements. PITAKA describes it as the most protective option of the three case families.
The version I have here is the Midnight Moonrise 2.0 – 1001 Nights Cairn Case.
It measures approximately 2mm thick and weighs around 33.4g, so there is naturally more material surrounding the iPhone compared with Edge. You are still getting the woven aramid fibre appearance, but there is additional TPU underneath to help absorb impacts. It’s definitely thicker and chunkier compared to the Edge cases that I’m used to but if you are of the clumsy type, it’s best to grab this case for more protection.
It also supports MagSafe charging and accessories, while the raised edges provide additional protection around both the screen and camera. PITAKA currently lists the iPhone 18 Pro Cairn Case at US$59.99, meaning it sits at the same starting price as Edge despite offering considerably more drop protection.
PITAKA Summa Case
The third option is the PITAKA Summa Case, which PITAKA positions as its more premium case design. It still uses aramid fibre, but the construction incorporates PITAKA’s Orca Resin alongside TPU to create what the company calls a more unified, premium design.
The 600D Black/Grey Twill Summa Case I have here has the more traditional dark woven aramid fibre look that PITAKA has become known for. And man, that would look great on my Black iPhone 18 Pro.
Like Cairn, it measures around 2mm thick. PITAKA’s broader specifications put Summa at roughly 38g depending on the model and design, although the particular version supplied here is listed at around 33.4g. PITAKA says the Summa also meets MIL-STD-810H testing standards, although its rated drop test is 1.22 metres compared with the Cairn’s 2.44 metres. This helps explain the distinction between the two: Cairn is specifically designed around maximum drop protection, while Summa places more emphasis on balancing protection with its cleaner unibody construction.
MagSafe support is again included, along with raised protection around the camera and screen.
Summa is the most expensive of the three ranges, with PITAKA currently listing iPhone 18 Pro versions at US$79.99.
So, what is the difference between PITAKA Edge, Cairn and Summa?
The easiest way to look at PITAKA’s new iPhone 18 Pro lineup is that each case prioritises something slightly different.
The Edge is the thin and lightweight model. PITAKA’s average specifications put it at around 1.2mm and 22g, although some of the individual designs are even lighter.
The Cairn is the protection-focused model. It is around 2mm thick and combines aramid fibre with TPU, along with additional cushioning around the corners. It also carries PITAKA’s highest drop-test rating at 2.44 metres.
The Summa is positioned as the premium option. It is also approximately 2mm thick but uses PITAKA’s Orca Resin construction and focuses more heavily on providing a sleek, unified finish while still offering stronger protection than Edge.
All three support MagSafe and wireless charging, so choosing between them mostly comes down to how much protection and additional thickness you are comfortable with. And of course, the looks because that is more important than anything (to me, at least).
More choices for iPhone 18 Pro owners
It is good to see PITAKA offering different case types rather than simply releasing the same case in several colours. I have always associated PITAKA primarily with ultra-thin aramid fibre cases, and the Edge continues that philosophy. Cairn gives buyers who are worried about drops a considerably more protective alternative, while Summa provides a more premium-looking option without moving away from the company’s signature woven material.
Which one I’ll be picking for my iPhone 18 Pro? Probably the Summa although it does feel heavier than the Edge – and I’ve always been on the Sunset series (the Sunset2.0, Sunset Moment on iPhone 17 Pro, Sunset Moonrise on iPhone 16 Pro, and Sunset on iPhone 15 Pro). That Black on Black iPhone 18 Pro should look really good, we’ll see.
