Sony is bringing back the nostalgic appeal of transparent gaming accessories with its new PlayStation 5 Prism Collection, featuring three see-through colour options for the DualSense wireless controller and matching PS5 console covers. The collection will launch on 4 February 2027, with pre-orders opening on 10 November 2026.
The new designs come in Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray, each featuring a glossy transparent finish that offers a glimpse of the hardware underneath. It’s a throwback to the late 1990s and early 2000s, when transparent controllers and gaming consoles were particularly popular, but with a more modern appearance that complements the PS5’s design.
Rather than simply introducing another set of solid-coloured accessories, Sony has taken a different approach with the Prism Collection. The transparent materials allow parts of the DualSense controller’s internal construction to remain visible while retaining the familiar shape and features of the original controller.
According to Sony’s design team, the collection was developed in response to fans who wanted to see transparent controllers make a comeback. The team also wanted the new designs to feel consistent with the PS5 generation rather than simply recreating older accessories.
To achieve this, Sony has extended the high-gloss transparent finish around the back of the DualSense controller, while adding a metallic finish to its central section. This creates some visual contrast between the transparent surfaces without making the overall design look too busy.
Personally, I quite like the return of transparent gaming accessories. There’s something appealing about being able to see what’s underneath a controller’s exterior, even if it’s mostly a cosmetic change. Graphite Gray would probably be my pick for a more subtle gaming setup, although Flare Orange looks pretty good too.
For those who prefer a coordinated setup, Sony is also releasing matching PS5 console covers in all three colours.
PS5 Prism Collection pricing and availability
The Prism Collection DualSense wireless controllers will retail for $134.95 AUD, while the matching PS5 console covers will cost $119.95 AUD. Pre-orders begin on 10 November 2026, ahead of the collection’s initial release on 4 February 2027.
