Nukotoys combines trading cards with technology for an extra fun! Now available through Australian Geographic stores

Remember the old days where we used to collect cards and trade them? Some of these collectable trading cards could also be used for playing games or simply just to be shown off because of a card’s rarity level. Nowadays, we all have our smartphones and tablets that we rarely see these cards being out in the open anymore.

A company had a brilliant idea – why don’t we combine them to create a satisfying addictiveness of collecting these rare cards but at the same time, to have fun with the latest technology in our iPhone, iPod, or iPad? Welcome to Nukotoys.

Nukotoys collectable cards can actually be used in iOS games called Animal Planet:Wildlands or Monsterology (both available for free). The former is meant for kids with ages 4+ to collect these exotic animals and also learn more about them. The Later, Monsterology, is meant for kids with ages 8+ or adults like me – with mythical creatures such as the mighty Kraken.

Monsterology appMonsterology is a turn-based strategy game in which you can use your monsters to be deployed in the battlefield to kill other monsters while completing your objectives.

There is a campaign which goes you through different maps, terrains, and enemies to battle with. Any actions cost you Action Points, which regenerates every turn. Deploying creatures also costs you different Action Points, depending on the creatures’ “Dangerosity” level.

How do you get more creatures? Now, this is the interesting part. You get them by buying these Nukotoys physical cards (either virtually or physically)! Like those Pokemon or Magic The Gathering cards, the cards you get are random so you need a bit of luck to get those rare cards. Trading with friends is of course encouraged here, which makes Nukotoys fun to play with the other kids.

I was sponsored a sample by the Australian Geographic to take a look at this unique game. The Special Limited Edition Collector’s Set contains 2 x Seven Pack of Cards, 1 x Three Pack of cards, and 1 Bookmark. You can also get the Nuko Cards Monsterology Premium Box (contains 17 cards and a Monsterology bookmark) for $19.95 or the Nuko Cards Monsterology 7-Card Pack for $6.95.

You won’t know what you’ll get and that’s where the addictiveness comes with collectable cards, right? The cards are beautifully designed and also of high quality. They are also of different colors, depending on the creatures or items elements in the game.

The coolest thing and also what makes Nukotoys unique, is the part where you scan your cards to make them available in the game! Once you have installed and run Monsterology app on your iOS device, you can start tapping your cards away!

The app will automatically scan the card and add it into the game (if you haven’t had it yet). Cool, eh? I’ve never seen anything like it. Simply brilliant.

It’s fun to see your cards come to life in the game. It’s even more fun when you manage yourself to get a rare card and own the enemy in the game!

The app has occasional glitches (you cannot change your profile name and sometimes your creatures cannot move) and also crashes, but I’m sure these issues will be fixed on the next update.

There are about 100 Monsterology cards to collect from and you can see what cards you have collected on your deck:
