Overwatch x Project YoRHa Collaboration Brings NieR: Automata’s Weight to the Battlefield

The Overwatch x Project YoRHa collaboration has arrived, and it’s bringing a different kind of intensity to the game. Running from 10 to 23 March, this crossover pairs five Overwatch heroes with iconic characters from NieR: Automata’s Project YoRHa, leaning heavily into themes of sacrifice, duty, and the messy reality of fighting for something better. And yes, we’ve all been wishing to be able to see 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) in Overwatch – it’s just a matter of who will be getting the awesome skin.

Blizzard hasn’t gone for flashy or celebratory with this collaboration. Instead, the five Legendary skins pull from Project YoRHa’s stark, purposeful designs and match them with heroes who understand what it means to make difficult choices. Or in short, which hero is the best match for each skin (or cosplay).

Kiriko steps into 2B’s iconic combat form as a silent and unwavering protector who can’t afford to hesitate. Pod 042 accompanies her throughout matches as a constant observer, reinforcing her role as a warrior guided by duty rather than impulse. The transformation suits Kiriko’s existing playstyle while adding that distinctly android-like precision to her movements.

Wuyang takes on 9S’s appearance, reflecting the character’s sharp intellect paired with the burden of knowing more than you might want to. Intelligence becomes the primary weapon here, but as anyone familiar with NieR: Automata knows, not every truth is easy to bear. Pod 153 hovers nearby as a reminder that knowledge carries weight, often more than we’d like.

Vendetta embodies A2’s raw, relentless energy, fueled by loss and fighting without orders or restraint. This is rebellion personified, turning rage into resolve on her own terms. There’s no apology in this skin, just pure determination stripped of hierarchy and protocol.

Mercy assumes the role of Commander White, guiding from above with the calm voice in the storm. Strategy, sacrifice, and leadership define her presence here, even when the cost of command means everything. It’s a fitting match for Mercy’s existing role and how she can stay calm and be there for the team in the midst of intense battle.

Lifeweaver takes on Adam’s otherworldly poise with an elegant yet unsettling grace. There’s a detached curiosity here, a calculated calm that reminds both allies and enemies that understanding humanity doesn’t always mean belonging to it. The skin captures that philosophical distance Adam maintains throughout NieR: Automata while still fitting Lifeweaver’s support role.

Beyond the skins themselves, the collaboration includes a themed lobby co-designed by Kimihiko Fujisaka and Koda Kazuma that sets the atmosphere before matches begin. There’s also a dedicated Collaboration Event Hub that keeps everything organised in one place, making it easier to track your progress through the event challenges.

And don’t forget. Speaking of challenges, completing them during the event period earns you additional cosmetic rewards including Namecards, a Player Title, and a special Weapon Charm inspired by the collaboration. There are definitely great cosmetics to grab here and I really like some of the new emotes.

The Overwatch x Project YoRHa collaboration runs until 23 March, giving you just under two weeks to experience the crossover and unlock everything on offer. It’s one of the best collaborations out there in Overwatch (and we’ve had great ones in the past like the most recent Phantom Thieves from Persona 5 and Street Fighter 6 collabs.
