Sony announced the 4th generation of its most popular noise cancelling headphones, the WH-1000XM4

Sony WH-1000XM3 has definitely been the most popular noise-cancelling headphones, even beating Bose QuietComfort 35 II (check my review out) and the new Bose Noise Cancelling 700. It received praises everywhere on the net, and among many of my close friends.

If you haven’t had one yet and been itching to grab one for yourself, this might be a good time. Sony has just announced the new WH-1000XM4 (which is the 4th generation) with the design and features that we love, plus additional intelligent features that allow you to personalise and control your music, improve noise cancellation and adjust ambient sound automatically based on your preferences for a more superior sound experience.

Well actually, the new generation model comes with a lighter design and better fit than the previous generation. There is also a “Speak-to-Chat” new feature which will instantly pause your music when you are speaking automatically. This allows you to have conversation without needing to take the headphones off or press any kind of buttons. Probably great to greet someone when you walk your dog out but not in a long, continuous conversation.

According to Sony, the new WH-1000XM4 will reduce even more high and mid frequency or every day sounds using a new algorithm. This is good news, considering most of us are in isolation and can fly nowhere. If you are lucky enough not to be in Victoria like myself, you can probably have a nice coffee inside your favourite cafe and the new Sony headphones should be an even better companion now.

And with Edge-AI, 360 Reality Audio, and Adaptive Sound Control, your music listening experience will be elevated even further. It also comes with wearing detection and will automatically stop the music when you remove the headphones, and resume when you put them on again. It’s a common feature on most wireless, modern headphones like the Jabra Elite 85h and we’re glad the new WH-1000XM4 has this too.

Sony WH-1000XM4 are NFC and BLUETOOTH enabled, have a battery life of up to 30 hours and quick charging function providing up to 5 hours of wireless playback from only 10 minutes of charging. They are available in Black and Platinum Silver, and will be available in Australia from August 2020 for RRP of AU $549.95.
