As organisations continue to scale AI applications, managing APIs across multiple teams and environments is becoming increasingly complex. Kong Inc., is aiming to reduce that complexity with a new integration between Insomnia 13 and Kong Konnect, bringing API discovery, testing, governance and automation into a single workflow.
The integration allows developers to discover, test and manage API endpoints directly within Insomnia, while automatically synchronising API definitions, routes and authentication settings from Kong Konnect. Rather than manually configuring environments or importing API specifications, developers can begin testing immediately using up-to-date configurations pulled from a central source of truth.
The announcement comes as more enterprises move AI projects from proof of concept into production. While AI models continue to evolve rapidly, many organisations still struggle with fragmented API infrastructure, disconnected tooling and inconsistent governance across development teams. Kong believes consolidating API management into a unified platform can help address those challenges.

A single source of truth for APIs
One of the biggest advantages of the integration is the automatic synchronisation between Kong Konnect and Insomnia.
Developers authenticate using a Kong Konnect Personal Access Token, giving them immediate visibility of approved APIs and AI endpoints across the organisation. When platform teams update API specifications inside Konnect, those changes automatically appear within Insomnia, helping eliminate outdated documentation, version mismatches and manual maintenance.
For larger engineering organisations, this could significantly reduce onboarding time while ensuring developers always test against the latest approved API definitions.
Preparing APIs for AI agents
Kong is also introducing an AI-focused enhancement through a new Insomnia CLI, currently available in Tech Preview.
The command-line interface enables large language models and autonomous AI agents to interact directly with API collections, environments and configurations stored within Insomnia. Rather than relying on manually assembled prompts or incomplete documentation, AI systems can retrieve structured API information in JSON format designed for machine consumption.
This opens the door for more automated API testing, orchestration and developer workflows driven by AI agents.
Git-native workflows
Alongside the CLI, Kong is adding native Git-powered version control, allowing API collections and configurations to be managed directly from the command line. Developers can integrate API changes into existing Git workflows without leaving their preferred development environment.
