Melbourne gets an Uber sharing, UberPool, starting this Monday

Uber Ride Sharing, UberPool in Melbourne – After a successful trial in Sydney, Melbourne is next to get the new Uber sharing-a-ride feature, UberPool.

By sharing your ride with a stranger who is heading to the same destination (or similar direction, at least), you can save up to 50% (in UberX), which is great if you don’t mind sharing the ride together.

According to Uber, over 60,000 Sydneysiders have used the service since its launch in April this year, and we’re pretty sure it’ll be popular as well here in Melbourne.

Lucas Groeneveld, Uber State Manager, Victoria and Tasmania, said: “After testing out the service in Sydney, we’re excited to be launching UberPool in Melbourne. UberPool helps make it easy and affordable for people going in a similar direction to share the trip and save some money.

We’re confident that over time, UberPool will help solve congestion on Melbourne roads, and allow a quicker, more enjoyable commute.”

There is a small inconvenience though that you may have to walk a short distance to a designated pick up spot (and a drop off spot near your destination). This is to ensure the Uber driver does not have to go around the route to pick up/drop both passengers. It’s a small price to pay, considering how much money you can save.

Here is a map where UberPool is going to support upon launch in Melbourne:

I’m not the type to ride with strangers, but hey, since I don’t even know the driver, might as well make the ride fun all the way, right?

If you are riding to the city from the airport, you can also save heaps and you’ll definitely get someone to share the cost together.
