Dyson Air Multiplier grows bigger and taller

Dyson new air multipliers

Remember the Dyson’s bladeless fan (the Air Multiplier?) – if you don’t know about it, be sure to check the Dyson fan review at Craving Tech.

To those who love the Air Multiplier, Dyson has just released two new Dyson Air Multiplier fans variant: The AM02 Tower and AM03 Pedestal. These new Air Multiplier fans are meant for larger rooms such as your living room or your office. The “first edition” of the Dyson Air Multiplier is definitely too small to give a good constant airflow for larger rooms. Official press release from Dyson Australia below.

Dyson fans multiply

Dyson has developed two new Dyson Air Multiplier™ fans: the AM02 Tower and AM03 Pedestal. For larger spaces, the floor standing machines produce a greater airflow with no buffeting.

With no fast spinning blades or awkward grilles, they are safe and easy to clean. And with the efficient brushless motor located in their base, and keeping the centre of gravity low, they are sturdy.

James Dyson says:

“Air conditioning is inefficient and gives little or no ventilation, so we engineered machines to circulate smooth air in larger rooms. The popularity of the AM01 shows that people prefer smooth, non-buffeting air: so we adapted the geometry of the desk fan to draw in even greater amounts of air and maximise airflow.”

How Air Multiplier™ technology works:

Dyson Air Multiplier fans draw air in through a mixed flow impeller – a combination of technologies used in turbochargers and jet engines. Only 7% of the air generated by Dyson Air Multiplier™ fans actually passes through the impeller, 93% results from the inducement and entrainment of surrounding air.

Air is accelerated through an annular aperture set within the loop amplifier. This creates a jet of air, which passes over an airfoil-shaped ramp and channels its direction. Surrounding air is drawn into the airflow in a process known as inducement and entrainment.

Conventional fans have limited settings. Dyson Air Multiplier™ fan airflow can be precisely adjusted up or down and oscillated by controls on the machine or remotely for the AM02 Tower and the AM03 Pedestal.

Dyson AM02 Tower fan:

At 1m high and only 19cm wide, the AM02 Tower takes up limited floor space. Thirty-three litres of air are drawn through a missed flow impeller each second and then amplified in volume 16 times using Air Multiplier™ technology.

Dyson AM03 Pedestal fan:

Offering the most airflow of all Dyson Air Multiplier™ fans, the AM03 Pedestal draws in 33 litres of air per second and amplifies the air leaving the machine by 18 times. It extends from a height of 1.2 metres to 1.4 metres for use in larger areas including living rooms and offices. It has no spinning blades, is easy to adjust and tilt.

These fans will be available in Australia later this year. There is also a possibility of having a unit reviewed at Craving Tech, so stay tuned!
