D-Link’s New WiFi 7 Mesh Router Packs Dual 10-Gig Ports and It’s Ready for NBN 2 Gbps

If you’re one of the growing number of Australians on NBN 1 Gbps or eyeing that new 2 Gbps plan, your router is probably now the weakest link in the chain. D-Link Australia and New Zealand is addressing that directly with the DPN-BE7212GR BE7200 10G Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router. It’s a consumer router that ships with both a 10 Gigabit WAN port and a dedicated 10 Gigabit LAN port, so neither your incoming broadband nor your internal home network becomes the bottleneck.

It comes with dual 10G Ethernet setup. The WAN side handles the fastest NBN connections available: FTTP, FTTC, HFC, Satellite, and Fixed Wireless, with plenty of headroom for when speeds go higher. The dedicated 10G LAN port on the other side means you can actually get those speeds to a device inside your home, whether that’s a 10G NAS you use for media storage and backups, a workstation, a gaming PC, or a multi-gig switch for a hybrid work setup. If you transfer lots of big files daily across your home or office network, this is the true gem. Rounding out the ports are four standard Gigabit LAN ports and a USB 3.0 connection.

Running all of this is a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor backed by 512MB of DDR4 RAM and 512MB of NAND flash, with nine 3 dBi antennas in a compact desktop form factor. It’s a solid hardware package for sure.

On the wireless side, you get Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) with 4×4 MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and 4K QAM which are the full suite of features that make Wi-Fi 7 meaningfully better than Wi-Fi 6 in busy households. Combined speeds reach up to 7200 Mbps, split across 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 5764 Mbps on 5 GHz. Multi-Link Operation is also supported, which lets compatible devices connect across both bands at once for more consistent performance when one band gets congested which is useful if you’re streaming 4K in one room while someone else is deep into an online match in another.

The DPN-BE7212GR is sold as a single unit but is designed to scale. Pair two or more together via EasyMesh and you get a unified Wi-Fi 7 network across the whole home, with seamless roaming and a single network name. Each additional unit brings its own full port layout to whatever room it’s in, so devices can hard-wire locally without long cable runs. For those who want the true 10G experience between rooms, linking units with a wired 10 Gigabit Ethernet backhaul creates a proper 10G backbone throughout the house. Wireless backhaul is also supported if running cables isn’t on the cards. Buying the units is costly for sure compared to getting a more affordable mesh router that comes with two or three units, but this one comes in very high spec per unit.

From what I can see, the optional wired 10G backhaul between mesh nodes is one of the more interesting features here because most mesh systems compromise on backhaul speeds, so having a path to a full 10G fabric room-to-room puts this in a different league for enthusiasts and power users.

Security comes via WPA3 encryption, guest network support, parental controls with scheduling, and automatic over-the-air firmware updates. D-Link’s Smart VPN feature lets devices on the network connect to a remote VPN server without needing per-device software, and it supports simultaneous VPN and regular internet traffic so everything doesn’t get routed through the tunnel unnecessarily. Setup and day-to-day management is handled through the D-Link Wi-Fi Assist app on iOS and Android. For those interested in operator deployment, the router also supports TR-069 (CWMP) and TR-181 for zero-touch provisioning via ACS platforms.

At AU$449.95, I think this is a competitive price point for what you’re getting. Dual 10G ports on a consumer Wi-Fi 7 router at under $500 is not a combination you see often, and if you’re already paying for one of the faster NBN tiers, it makes sense to have a router that can actually keep up.

The D-Link DPN-BE7212GR BE7200 10G Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router is available now in Australia from D-Link and authorised retailers at an RRP of AU$449.95.\
