The update arrives alongside a meaningful collaboration with the NSW Rural Fire Service, which happens to be the world’s largest volunteer fire service. With nearly 70,000 volunteers across New South Wales, the RFS plays an essential role in preventing and managing bushfires throughout communities that face this recurring threat every year.
At the launch event held at the RFS hangar in Bankstown, Sydney, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 introduced an exclusive firefighting mission that mirrors real-world aerial firefighting operations. Players can experience water bombing to tackle a fire near Coffs Harbour from a virtual pilot’s perspective, connecting the simulation directly to the operational realities the RFS faces daily. High-resolution screenshots, gameplay trailers and vision from this mission are available through Microsoft’s digital asset pack, along with additional content captured during the RFS event.
World Update 21: Australia delivers substantial enhancements across the region that should appeal to both newcomers and long-time fans of the simulator. Over 30 hand-crafted Points of Interest now populate the map, spanning everything from Sydney’s urban expanse to the remote stretches of the Outback. The update includes quirky Australian landmarks like The Big Koala, The Big Mango and The Big Golden Guitar for those who enjoy discovering the country’s roadside icons from above.
New Discovery Flights take players on guided tours over stunning locations including the Whitsundays, the distant Cocos Islands and Canberra. The activity roster has expanded considerably with four Precision Landings in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, three Landing Challenges in the 2020 version, one Bush Trip, two Low Altitude Challenges and two Rally Race Challenges.
Aircraft enthusiasts will appreciate the addition of the CAC Boomerang, an Australian-designed and manufactured fighter aircraft that adds a distinctive piece of aviation history to the hangar selection.
World Update 21: Australia is available now as a free download for anyone who owns Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and it’s accessible through Xbox Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
