70mai 4K A810 Lite Dash Cam Review – Design and Features

The A810 Lite has a compact 91 x 46 x 24.4mm body with a 3.18-inch IPS display. The screen is not particularly high resolution, but it does its job well enough for checking the camera angle, navigating menus and confirming recordings without needing to reach for your phone every time.

Its relatively discreet design also works in its favour. A dash cam is something I generally prefer not to notice once it has been installed, and the A810 Lite does not have the oversized body or unnecessary design elements that can make some dash cams distracting behind the windscreen.

The lens provides a wide 140-degree field of view, and captures plenty of the road without going excessively wide and introducing too much distortion around the edges. The headline feature, however, is obviously its camera.

True 4K HDR Recording

The 70mai A810 Lite records the front view at a true 3840 x 2160 resolution using a GC8613 image sensor. Resolution matters considerably with a dash cam because important details are often relatively small within the overall frame. Number plates, road signs and vehicles some distance ahead can be much easier to identify or zoom into when you have 4K footage to work with rather than simply recording at Full HD.

For night driving, the A810 Lite combines an F1.55 large-aperture lens with HDR processing to capture more light while balancing bright areas such as headlights against darker parts of the road. From my experience with the camera, night footage remains clear and detailed, which is particularly important when trying to make out vehicles or road details in more challenging lighting conditions.

The A810 Lite records at 30fps, which is sufficient for everyday dash cam use while helping to keep storage requirements manageable.

Front and Rear HDR Recording

The A810 Lite Set includes a rear camera, turning it into a dual-channel system with 4K HDR recording at the front and 1080p HDR recording at the rear. Having the rear camera included in the Lite Set (my review unit) is a worthwhile addition, as incidents and disputes certainly do not always happen in front of the vehicle. Front-only recording obviously covers incidents happening ahead of you, but collisions and disputes certainly do not always happen in front of the vehicle. It also gives me extra peace of mind, especially with the number of tailgaters we have here in Australia.

The rear camera’s 1080p resolution is noticeably lower than the front camera’s 4K resolution on paper, but it’s still good enough for insurance purposes.

Parking Surveillance

The A810 Lite can also keep monitoring the vehicle while you’re away, although there is an important catch: you’ll need a compatible 70mai hardwire kit for its parking surveillance features.

There is also time-lapse parking recording, which helps reduce storage use while still giving you an overview of what happened around the vehicle while parked. This reduces storage consumption while still giving you a continuous overview of what has happened around the vehicle.

I didn’t have the optional hardwire kits available for testing, but the additional parking features are still worth mentioning

Built-in GPS

Built-in GPS is useful as it can record information including speed, coordinates and journey routes. In the event of an accident, having location and movement information accompanying the footage can provide useful additional context (and who’s to blame) rather than relying on video alone.

70mai App

Connecting the A810 Lite to the 70mai mobile app over Wi-Fi allows you to view live footage, change camera settings and transfer recordings directly to your smartphone. You can adjust options including recording resolution, clip duration and G-sensor sensitivity from the app, which is generally far more convenient than navigating everything from the dash cam’s relatively small display.

More importantly, downloading footage straight to your phone means you do not have to remove the memory card and find a computer whenever you need to save or share a clip. You can then share it straight to social media as well.

Optional 4G Connectivity

For drivers wanting more remote monitoring capabilities, 70mai also offers optional 4G connectivity through its 4G Hardwire Kit in supported regions. With the appropriate hardware and firmware, the A810 Lite can send alerts to your smartphone when something happens while the car is parked. You can also remotely view the vehicle surroundings, capture images or video and access the car’s location.

70mai 4K A810 Lite Dash Cam Review Conclusion

The 70mai 4K A810 Lite gets the most important part of a dash cam right: its camera hardware is considerably more serious than what you’ll find on many inexpensive models.

True 4K recording, an F1.55 aperture and HDR processing give the A810 Lite a strong foundation for capturing important details that may actually matter when you need to review footage later. The included rear camera makes the Lite Set more useful again by providing 1080p HDR coverage behind the vehicle.

There is also an impressive amount of functionality around that core recording experience. GPS comes built in, Wi-Fi makes transferring footage through the 70mai app straightforward, while optional hardwire kits unlock parking monitoring and remote 4G features.

My main reservation is that some of the features that make the A810 Lite stand out aren’t included out of the box. Parking surveillance requires the optional UP03 Hardwire Kit, while 4G functionality requires compatible optional hardware. You’ll also need a compatible rear camera if you want dual-channel recording. But, not everyone needs those extras. As a standalone 4K dash cam, the combination of true 4K HDR recording, an F1.55 aperture and a wide 140-degree field of view already makes the 70mai A810 Lite a compelling option. And if you do want to build it into a more comprehensive front-and-rear vehicle monitoring system later, you have that flexibility.

For drivers prioritising video quality above all else, the 70mai 4K A810 Lite Dash Cam offers an impressive combination of 4K detail, HDR-enhanced low-light recording and useful smart features without turning the dash cam itself into an overly complicated device.
