THX acquired by Razer

In a rather surprising news, THX and Razer have just announced something big. As of now, Razer has officially purchased and acquired THX Ltd (though they don’t say for how much).

We all first knew THX (founded by George Lucas in 1983) from the cinemas for delivering high quality audio playback, which then expands to home theatres, gaming consoles, speakers, headphones, and everywhere else.

What does this have to do with Razer, a gaming company that makes gaming peripherals? Will we see better gaming headsets than the Kraken 7.1 or ManO’War?

To say that this acquisition is just for creating better audio experience with Razer’s future gaming headsets might be a bit of an understatement.

As Ty Ahmad-Taylor, CEO, THX Ltd. explains it:

We are interested in providing superior audio-visual experiences. As gaming bridges into VR, we expect to play a leadership role in the audio portion of that experience, which is crucial for completion the immersion into virtual worlds.

We’re talking Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and expanding the Razer brand here into broader areas of entertainment.

THX will still be a standalone company, so that doesn’t mean we will not be seeing that well-known logo around any longer.

Interesting times ahead, indeed.
