Sync iPad and Google CalendarIf you’ve been using the Google Calendar as your main calendar, you might want to keep it synchronize with your iPad’s calendar too. Google Calendar is great because it’s quick, easy, and supports free reminders, including sending an SMS to your phone. These instructions are the same to sync Google Contacts and Gmail.

Here is how you sync Google Calendar, Gmail, and Contact with the iPad.

How to Sync Google Calendar, Gmail, and Contact with iPad – a Step by Step Guide

  1. Tap settings on your iPad home screen
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, and Calendars
  3. Tap Add Account
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange (on the top)
  5. Enter your full Google’s email address on the Email field (I use my @gmail.com account here)
  6. Leave the domain blank
  7. Enter your Google account again on the Username field and the password (I use my @gmail.com again here)
  8. Tap Next. You’ll see an error message. Just press cancel (or accept) and you’ll be taken back to the previous screen
  9. A new field, the Server field, will now appear
  10. Enter m.google.com
  11. Tap Next again to retry
  12. Now everything should work and you can have the options to sync the Calendar, Contact, and Mail there.

  1. Good tip for those Google Calendar users. I’m using MobileMe to sync my iCal wirelessly, but I just disabled my calendar on iPad yesterday, cause I started to get annoyed by first the iPad making the event alarm, then a second later the iPhone and then a second later, it came on my Mac. So having the same calendar on three devices on your desk, can be annoying :)

I figured, the iPhone I always have with me – so chances of me ever having to use the calendar on iPad, is very slim. And if I happen to be in a position where I don’t have my iPhone, but only iPad, then I could probably just re-enable calendar sync (as long as there’s wifi around) and have the calendar synced iPad once more.

But bottom line, synchronized calendars are great and I don’t understand why otherwise tech savvy people, still use a paper book calendar to carry around in their bag/purse/whatever, when they might as well use their smartphone and sync with the home/web calendar :)

    • But it costs around $99/year (if I’m not mistaken) for the MobileMe service.. a bit too much for me. I was researching for an app to track if my iPad ever gone missing/stolen and someone told me about MobileMe service. But if you have an iPhone and a Mac, I think it’s worth to pay!

Some tech savvy I know don’t want their info to be stored on Google or other services online so I guess that’s probably one of the reason why. I love Google calendar a lot, especially with its reminders

  2. Great tip! I’ve been trying to find a solution for this challenge for some time now, thanks for sharing.

  3. Thank you!!! This was very helpful! I now have all my contacts, email and calendar on my ipad!!!!! Thanks again!!!

  4. That did the trick. Now my Droid X and iPad are synced. What an amazing, seemingly unholy union.

  5. Do you know of any possibility to also let the birthdays show up on the iPad’s calendar? (in general: how to let read-only calendars from your Google calendar show up on the iPad)

    It’s not sync’ing, because it’s read-only (imported from your Google contacts), so I don’t say “sync’ing”.

I need this. I regularly miss birthday’s since I rely on the iPad calendar. :-(

    • I’m sorry, I don’t know a way for this. I normally use the Google’s calendar SMS / Email reminder for important events – so you might want to do just that?

    • Michael, thanks for the hint with SMS/email reminders.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be possible to set reminders for “imported” calenders (like birthdays, public holidays, etc.). Can you confirm, or can you add reminders to such calendars in Google Calendar?

  6. THANK YOU!! I just started using my Google calendars more frequently, and I got my iPad to keep me more organized. I’m so glad there’s a way to sync it all up. :D

  7. but it only works one way. it wont syncronize the google calendar on the pc, only the ipad calendar

  8. I created the gmail account for the google calendar but it is saying “Cannot Create Account – An identical Exchange account already exists.” What do I do next?

  9. Hi Michael,

So I set up my google calendar to sync with my iPad but that’s only one calendar. How do you sync the rest of the calendar (from the iPad/iPhone)?
