Samsung’s Next-Gen Odyssey Gaming Monitors Bring 3D and OLED Excellence to Australian Gamers

Samsung Australia has just launched their newest Odyssey gaming monitors, featuring groundbreaking 3D technology and stunning OLED displays that might just revolutionise how we experience gaming. As someone who’s tested a few gaming displays over the years, I’m genuinely intrigued by these new offerings that push visual boundaries further than we’ve seen before.

The new lineup includes the glasses-free Odyssey 3D monitor and the high-performance Odyssey OLED G8, both now available for pre-order in Australia.

Odyssey 3D: Gaming Without Glasses

The 27″ Odyssey 3D (G90XF model) introduces glasses-free 3D gaming. Using advanced eye-tracking technology and a special lenticular lens system, this monitor creates natural-looking 3D images that genuinely pop out of the screen. Gone were the days where you need a special, weird, 3D glasses of Red and Blue colour to experience 3D.

What’s particularly interesting is Samsung’s collaboration with major game developers to optimise titles for this technology. Nexon’s The First Berserker: Khazan is already compatible in Australia, and Neowiz’s Lies of P will get 3D support with its upcoming Overture DLC later this year.

The AI video conversion capability also caught my attention – it can transform standard video content into 3D, essentially giving new life to existing media. Having seen early 3D implementations on TVs years ago, I’m keen to see how much this technology has matured.

Beyond the 3D features, the core gaming specs are solid too. With a 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms GtG response time, and compatibility with both AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC, it should handle fast-paced gaming without issues. The 4K resolution ensures crisp visuals when you’re deep in gameplay.

The Edge Lighting feature extends the gaming environment beyond the screen by projecting synchronised lighting effects underneath the monitor – something that could genuinely enhance immersion during night gaming sessions.

Odyssey OLED G8: Pixel-Dense Perfection

The new Odyssey OLED G8 comes in both 27″ and 32″ sizes, but it’s the smaller model that stands out with its remarkable 166 pixels-per-inch density – one of the highest I’ve seen on a gaming monitor of this size. Paired with a blistering 240Hz refresh rate, this display seems designed for competitive gamers who demand both visual clarity and responsiveness. As a gamer who plays lots of online FPS games, this is great.

The QD-OLED technology provides those perfect blacks and vibrant colours OLED is known for, enhanced by quantum dot technology. With VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certification, the contrast ratio should be exceptional – something that makes a massive difference when gaming in darker environments or titles with dramatic lighting.

One of my typical concerns with OLED displays is burn-in risk, but Samsung has implemented their OLED Safeguard+ technology with a Dynamic Cooling System featuring a Pulsating Heat Pipe. This should help maintain the screen’s longevity without having to dim the brightness, which is a common workaround in other OLED monitors.

The 0.03ms GtG response time is virtually instantaneous, which should eliminate ghosting even in the fastest-paced games. Support for both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible technologies means smooth gameplay regardless of your GPU choice.

Availability and Pricing in Australia

The Odyssey 3D is available for pre-order at $A2,999, which positions it firmly in the premium segment. Meanwhile, the Odyssey OLED G8 starts at A$1,799 for the 27″ model and A$1,999 for the 32″ variant.

These aren’t budget-friendly options, but based on the specifications, they’re targeting gamers who want cutting-edge technology and are willing to invest in their gaming setup. For competitive players or those seeking the most immersive experience possible, these monitors offer features you simply won’t find in more affordable alternatives.

More information about both monitors is available on Samsung Australia’s website, where you can also pre-order these displays if you’re ready to take your gaming setup to the next level.
