Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL Review – Speed and Style in ultra-thin package

The Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL represents the company’s latest attempt at creating the ultimate wireless gaming keyboard and after using it for more than a couple of weeks (for both gaming and non-gaming activities), they’ve pretty much nailed it with this one too.

This isn’t just another gaming keyboard with flashy RGB lighting. The G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL combines premium materials, innovative switch technology, and versatile connectivity options in an ultra-thin package that looks as good as it performs.

Design and Build Quality

The first thing you notice about the G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL is how incredibly thin it is. At just 22.6mm high, this low profile keyboard looks very sleek on the desk and will definitely increase the aesthetic of the room. The tenkeyless design in my review unit (the TKL version) keeps things compact while maintaining all the essential keys for gaming and productivity.

Note that those who are working on spreadsheets heavily on a daily basis may not want to use a TKL keyboard because you’ll be going without a numpad and that would be a pain.

For the G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL, Logitech has used premium materials throughout. The brushed aluminium alloy top plate feels solid and gives the keyboard a professional and luxurious appearance. The double-shot PBT keycaps provide a smooth feel and should resist wear and shine much better than cheaper ABS alternatives.

At 860g without the cable, the G915 X has enough weight to feel substantial (and to keep it in place) without being unnecessarily heavy. The low profile design means it sits comfortably on your desk without requiring a wrist rest, though extended gaming sessions might benefit from one. You can adjust the elevation of the keyboard to your preference as it offers three different elevations.

The heart of any mechanical keyboard is its switches, and Logitech’s GL switches deliver impressive performance. I tested the Tactile variant with its 45g actuation force and 1.3mm actuation point. These switches are noticeably faster than traditional mechanical switches, which typically actuate around 2mm. The Tactile version feels like CherryMX Brown (or Black) but there are Clicky and Linear switches variant too.

The short actuation distance makes a difference in fast-paced games. Your keypresses register quicker, which can provide a competitive advantage in games where every millisecond counts. The 3.2mm total travel distance still provides enough feedback to know when you’ve actuated a key, but it’s not so deep that it slows you down. Sure, other higher-end gaming keyboards can fully customise these actuations per key but these keyboards usually cost a fortune and not everyone needs it.

Gaming performance definitely feels snappy and responsive as I’ve been using it to play Overwatch 2 and Stellar Blade. The G915 X keeps up without any noticeable input lag when used in wireless mode.

Thanks to KEYCONTROL, up to 15 functions per key can be customised and this level of customisation goes far beyond simple macro recording. You can assign different functions based on whether you tap, hold, or use modifier keys, creating an incredibly personalised command centre. You can set these all up through the Logitech’s G HUB software.

The soft touch media keys and metal roller bar add convenient volume and playback controls without taking up extra space – and yes I’ve always loved these roller bars and knobs to control volume quickly and easily.

The G915 X offers three connection methods: 2.4GHz LIGHTSPEED wireless, Bluetooth, and wired USB. Switching between modes is as simple as pressing a button on the keyboard and they are easily located for a quick access.

Again, LIGHTSPEED wireless performance is excellent. I couldn’t detect any input lag compared to wired mode, and the connection remained stable throughout my testing period. The Bluetooth option is there for connecting the keyboard to phones, tablets, or secondary devices.

Having the wired option as a backup is reassuring, especially during long gaming sessions where you might forget to charge the keyboard as the keyboard can be used while being charged with the cable. The 1.8m cable provides plenty of reach and doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.

Battery performance varies based on your RGB usage. With LIGHTSYNC RGB at full brightness, Logitech G says that you’ll get around 42 hours of continuous use. Dial it back to 50% brightness, and you can expect roughly 100 hours. Turn off the RGB completely, and Logitech claims up to 1000 hours of use. It’s actually pretty good.

The battery indicator lights let you know when charging is needed, though I wish there was a more precise battery level indicator in the software.

With access to roughly 16.8 million colors, you can create virtually any lighting scheme you want through G HUB software. The lighting is bright and even across all keys, with minimal light bleed. The lighting effects range from simple static colours to complex animated patterns that can all be customised through Logitech G HUB. There are also easy presets if you are not feeling adventureous.

Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL Review Conclusion

The Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL has a premium build quality, high-performing switches, and comprehensive customisation in an attractive, ultra-thin, low-profile package.

The GL mechanical switches with their 1.3mm actuation point provides a competitive advantage in fast-paced games like Overwatch 2, while KEYCONTROL customisation allows for awesome personalisation. Tri-mode connectivity ensures you can use this keyboard in virtually any scenario, and the battery life is reasonable given the features on offer.
