Dyson has just announced the PencilWash, a new wet and dry floor cleaner that’s taking a completely different approach to the category. With a handle measuring just 38mm in diameter, this is officially the slimmest wet cleaner available globally, and at 2.2kg, it’s also one of the lightest options you’ll find for tackling spills and stains on hard floors.
The company is launching the PencilWash in Australia on March 5th, 2026, priced at $499 AUD, available directly through Dyson’s George Street store in Sydney and online at dyson.com.au.
The 38mm handle makes the PencilWash extremely easy to manoeuvre, weighing just 380g in hand. It lies flat to 170 degrees, which means it can fit under furniture as low as 15cm without losing cleaning power. This is particularly useful for reaching under beds, sofas, and other low-clearance areas where traditional cleaners struggle to access.
The machine steers naturally with a simple twist of the wrist, making it straightforward to navigate around furniture and along skirting boards. The slim profile also makes storage considerably easier compared to bulkier wet and dry cleaners.
An interesting design choice here is the complete absence of a filter. Traditional wet and dry cleaners typically use filters that trap dirt and debris, but these can become breeding grounds for bacteria, emit unpleasant odours, and require regular cleaning. The PencilWash eliminates this issue entirely with its filter-free design, which should mean less maintenance and no risk of sludge buildup or performance drops over time.
The cleaning system relies on a high-density microfibre roller with 64,000 filaments per square centimetre, spinning at 650 RPM. This roller continuously extracts dirty water and debris on every rotation, working in tandem with an 8-point hydration system that delivers a consistent supply of fresh water. This means you’re always cleaning with fresh water rather than pushing dirty water around the floor.
The PencilWash offers two hydration modes, allowing you to adjust water flow depending on the surface type and the severity of the mess. Whether you’re dealing with light spills or stubborn stains, you can control how much water gets applied to ensure optimal results with a quick-drying finish.
The 300mL clean water tank provides enough capacity to clean up to 100 square metres of flooring in low hydration mode, which is roughly equivalent to the average four-room apartment in Sydney. The dirty water tank holds 360mL, and runtime sits at around 30 minutes on a full charge, which takes 3.5 hours.
Dyson is also offering a specially formulated hard floor cleaning solution designed to work with the PencilWash and other Dyson wet and dry cleaners. The Dyson 02 Probiotic solution is a non-foaming, non-toxic formula that deep cleans at a microscopic level, lifting dirt and grime while remaining safe for pets and children.
