Logitech Alto Keys K98M launches in Australia as mechanical keyboard market Sees 61% Growth

Logitech has officially launched the Alto Keys K98M in Australia, a wireless mechanical keyboard that taps into the growing demand for tactile typing experiences and workspace customisation. The announcement comes as the mechanical keyboard market experiences remarkable momentum across the region.

The Alto Keys K98M first debuted in China and select markets where it quickly gained traction, mirroring the broader shift of mechanical keyboards from niche enthusiast territory into mainstream appeal. This trend is backed by solid numbers from Market Growth Reports, which shows the global mechanical keyboard market recorded 61% growth in demand over the past 24 months. The market value is projected to nearly double from $3.21 billion in 2024 to $6.13 billion by 2033.

While mechanical keyboards have been popular in the gaming market (I’ve been using mechanical gaming keyboards for more than a decade possibly), using mechanical keyboards at workplace were not as common.

Since launching in November, the Alto Keys K98M has been pulling strong demand from Australian users. The keyboard centres around a compact 98-key layout combined with Logitech’s proprietary UniCushion gasket design. This system works with hot-swappable Marble Switches to deliver smooth feedback alongside a rich sound profile that many mechanical keyboard enthusiasts chase after.

The design philosophy here leans into personalisation. The translucent frame pairs with subtle backlighting and AI-powered customisation options, turning a standard desk setup into something more deliberate. For those who spend hours at their keyboard daily, the ability to swap switches and adjust the feel means the typing experience can evolve based on preference rather than staying locked into factory settings.

The keyboard’s UniCushion gasket design absorbs vibrations during typing, which softens the acoustic profile and creates that satisfying feel mechanical keyboard users often describe. The hot-swappable Marble Switches mean you can change switches without desoldering or technical expertise, allowing the sound and tactile response to adapt as preferences change over time.

Logitech equipped the Alto Keys K98M with PBT keycaps, which offer better durability and a smoother texture compared to standard ABS plastic keycaps. The compact 98-key layout maintains full functionality including a number pad while keeping the footprint manageable for modern desks where space is often at a premium. This gives you the best of both worlds: compact but still have that keypad for quick number-entering on spreadsheets.

The Logi Options+ app brings AI-powered personalisation into the mix, letting users customise individual keys, automate repetitive tasks, and access AI tools through single keypress shortcuts. The keyboard supports multi-OS compatibility across Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS, with Easy-Switch keys allowing quick switching between up to three paired devices.

Battery performance sits at up to 12 months of wireless use with backlighting turned off, and the keyboard can recharge while in use.

Next, please give us a new Logitech Wave Keys with mechanical switches, please..

The Logitech Alto Keys K98M in Graphite is available now at JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia for A$169.95.
