An era of tablets, is PC dying?

Xperia Z

Who would have known that we are currently entering the era of tablets? I mean, for years, everyone has been content with having a desktop or a laptop. For every other mobile interactions or things that require portability, we were happy enough with our smartphones.

Now, some actually prefer to use tablets rather than their PCs and some prefer to buy a tablet than a new PC. Is the PC era dying?

Before we can answer that question, we should probably have a look at what we can actually do with our tablets, like the Xperia™ Tablet, and find out whether the experience is far better than the PC.

When is a tablet better than a PC?

[1] When portability is of the essence

A tablet is easier to carry and more practical. Rather having to carry a laptop (even if you have a thin and light Ultrabook), it still is easier to carry a tablet around. You can then use the tablet to browse the web, check/send emails, and even do a presentation in front of a client easily.

[2] When you are on the lounge, relaxing

Tablet is easier and lighter to hold. You can lie down on your couch and hold the tablet on top of you. Or if you are watching TV, you can do an easy web search or even use it as a remote control.

[3] When you want something that is easier to learn/master

A PC requires maintenance every now and then. Not to mention all the tech jargons that come with it. My mom, for example, finds it hard to understand about file systems, software updates, and all the interactions that come in a PC.

A tablet is so much easier and requires a minimal degree to learn. Even a five year old kid (or younger) knows how to use a tablet!

With a tablet like the Xperia™ Tablet in your hands, you have access to powerful apps and games that are easy and fun to use. For example, you can check the weather quickly just before you walk out of the door. Or you can do a quick photo snap of whatever you are doing and tweet about it. You can also watch videos and listen to music where ever you are. When you are bored, a simple tap will launch your favorite games away.

What do you think? Do you think the PC era is dying? Do you have a tablet at home? What do you use it for?
