BLUETTI AC70 Review – Portable Power Station for Heavy-Duty Use

Portable power stations were taking over in 2024 with various devices coming from different brands. I’ve been testing and reviewing a few BLUETTI portable power stations in the past like the EB70/70S, AC60, and the PV200 Solar Panel accessory so I’m expecting the AC70 to be of the same quality.

So let’s dig into this.

BLUETTI AC70 Review – Design and Features

The BLUETTI AC70 comes with a comprehensive set of ports:

  • 1x DC Input
  • 1x AC Input (to charge it)
  • 2x AC Output (with sockets type depending on the country you buy it from)
  • 2x USB-A Ports (12W each)
  • 2x USB-C Ports (100W each) which can power most modern laptops

It’s designed with an integral carrying handle so that you can lift it up easily, despite the 10 kg of weight. Note that there’s always a trade-off between weight and battery/power capacity so make sure to check their product range before making a purchase decision.

At the front of the unit, there are clearly-labelled buttons and ports with an LCD screen to display information. You’ll get enough information from the LCD screen such as how much power is coming in and out, even the number of projected hours before the AC70 battery runs out with the current output.

You can also access these features through the BLUETTI app where you can change settings easily (like turning ECO mode on/off, Power Lifting, etc).

BLUETTI AC70 has a 1,000W Rated Power (with 2,000W Lifting Power that you can enable) and 768Wh Battery Capacity. For comparison, the AC60 has a 600W Rated Power with 1,200W Lifting Power and 403Wh Battery Capacity. On paper, the AC70 basically can deliver almost double the power of the AC60 and that’s awesome for more heavy-duty users.

If you think that’s not enough, you can combine it with other BLUETTI expandable batteries like the B80 (806Wh), B230 (2,048Wh), or B300 (3,072Wh).

With up to 1,000W continuous power and multiple AC outputs, you can connect various appliances at once into the power station like a coffee machine, water kettle, electric blanket, etc. Obviously, the more appliances you connect, the faster the battery will drain. Some appliances like a hairdryer or heater are more energy-intensive so you need to double-check the wattage.

The AC70 can tackle up to 2,000W though and that covers a lot of appliances that you want to carry while travelling, or when the power grid is out and you need some electronic appliances to work (or to make sure your aquarium water filter keeps on running for your fishes). Or perhaps you are a busker and want to be able to plug in your musical instrument or sound system.

We had a planned power outage here the other day for 4 hours and my wife was definitely concerned with all her breast milk supply inside the fridge. Thankfully, I had the AC70 review unit here at the perfect time so we had peace of mind that it would be okay. Most refrigerators typically use below 1000 watts of power and smaller fridges even less. According to BLUETTI, if you have a 120W Car Fridge, it should be able to last for almost 5 hours. That’s a great assurance.

I also tested the AC70 to power my work laptop (Dell XPS 13 2023) throughout the day. According to the display, the AC70 should be able to power it up to 8 hours – which is more than enough for a full workday.

And there are many other cases especially when you are travelling into the wild where there are no power outlets nearby. You can make instant noodles through an electric pot, charge your DSLR to take photos for the next day, turn a mini portable A/C on to cool your tent, charge your smart devices, and more.

The unit can be fully charged in about one and a half hours through AC main charging (0-80% in just 45 minutes with up to 950W of Turbo Charging), and we have other power inputs through Solar input (up to 500W) and Car charging. All input cables are included in the packaging, which is really nice, and yes it will work with the AC200 Solar Panel that I’ve reviewed in the past.

It supports pass-through charging so you can always plug your main appliances through the AC70 while letting it charge through the wall socket. For example, you might want to use it as a UPS when you are home and plug your monitor and desktop through the AC70. This way, if a power grid goes down, you can still work for a few hours through the AC70.

BLUETTI AC70 Review Conclusion

BLUETTI AC70 is yet another solid, portable power station from BLUETTI that supports more power-hungry appliances to be plugged and run off-grid. With 1,000W continuous power (and up to 2,000W in Power Lifting Mode), you’ll have plenty of options to bring with you while you go camping or other outdoor adventures. When you’re home, you can also use the AC70 as a backup power when the power grid is down or to plug a portable aircon while reading books under your gazebo. The possibilities are endless.

The build is sturdy, well-designed, and it can easily be connected to an app via Bluetooth for more options.

It charges fast, has plenty of charging options, and offers enough sockets and ports (both USB-A and USB-C) to charge and power modern devices. The USB-C sockets even support up to 100W for modern laptops like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 I reviewed recently.

The only downside might be its weight at 10kg, but considering the power and capacity it offers, that’s a reasonable trade-off for most users who need this level of portable power.

BLUETTI AC70 retails for A$1,099 but discounted to A$799 when this review was written. It is available now and comes with 5 years warranty for peace of mind, making it an excellent investment for anyone needing reliable portable power.
