Blink has launched its first 2K video doorbell in Australia, and it comes with a solid set of upgrades that make it worth a look if you’ve been thinking about adding a smart doorbell to your front door setup.
The Blink Doorbell 2K+ builds on the previous generation with a meaningful jump in video quality. You’re getting 2K resolution, a head-to-toe field of view that captures visitors and packages more completely, and improved dynamic range that handles both bright sunlight and low-light conditions better than before. Since it’s battery-powered, there’s no need for existing doorbell wiring, which makes installation a lot more straightforward for most homes.
Motion detection alerts are sent directly to the Blink app, so you can quickly check what’s happening at the front door without having to keep an eye on the camera constantly. Paired with the 2K video and that wider field of view, it’s easy to see exactly what triggered the alert.
For those who want more out of the system, a Blink Subscription Plan unlocks Smart Detection, which uses computer vision to tell the difference between a person, a vehicle, and general motion. The subscription also includes unlimited cloud storage for motion clips and live view recordings, saved for up to 60 days. Alongside the doorbell, Blink has also introduced the Solaris 2K+, a solar-powered outdoor camera system that pairs the Outdoor 2K+ camera with Blink’s smallest solar panel to date. It only needs around 45 minutes of direct sunlight to keep the camera running, so battery changes become a thing of the past. It’s IP-65 weather resistant, supports snap-on installation, and works with Alexa+, meaning you can pull up a live view or manage the system entirely by voice. For anyone looking to extend security coverage beyond just the front door, the Solaris 2K+ is a tidy, low-maintenance option.
