Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Review – Before I tested and reviewed Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4, I knew many people who actually have one at home and looking around, it’s definitely one of the most popular air purifiers available in the market. And I can totally understand why.

It has a sleek design for modern homes out there but more importantly, it has an excellent performance as it can cover and purify a large, 20m2 room in approximately 10 minutes. It can definitely cover a larger area than that (60m2), making it suitable as a primary air purifier for the living room. Our master bedroom is about 15m2 and that’s where I place the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 in.

Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 is not a small unit. But upon opening the magnetic-door design filter area, I can understand why. The unit has a huge 3-in-1 filter that can trap many pollutants within for up to one year (depending on usage). With a large surface area and high content of quality activated carbon, it’s a highly efficient filter consisting of Pre-Filter (traps larger particles like pet’s hair), Xiaomi’s High Efficiency Filter (traps small particles as small as 0.3 microns), and High-Quality Activated Carbon (traps harmful gases and odour).

Note that the filter is not a conventional HEPA filter that you may find in most air purifiers in the market. Xiaomi’s High Efficiency Filter combines electrostatic charge and mechanical filtration to remove many pollutants but at the same time, reduces machine noise and energy consumption. According to Xiaomi, the High Efficiency Filter media can remove 99.97% of airborne particles of 0.3 micrometres in size and traps dust, PM 2.5, pollen, pet dander, smoke and tiny particles. You’ll also get a lot more clean air getting out of the filter into the room. A big breath of fresh air.

So, back to the design. It’s of a taller design than wider like the Mila Air Purifier running in our Nursery. This makes Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 more compact, while still able to dish out big volume of fresh, clean air from it.

You can also use the Mi Home/Xiaomi Home app to connect to the air purifier through Wi-Fi connection. This gives you access to many more than just basic controls, including monitoring your air in the room, a child lock, and filter-life. Most of the controls are available on the unit itself though so having it connected to the app is not compulsory, unless if you want to set up scheduling and automations with the other Xiaomi smart products you have at home.

At the front of the machine itself, you can only see two buttons, with one being the power button. The other button will toggle between different functions like Auto, Night, and manual air flow controls (Low, Medium, or High). If you put it in Auto, it will operate in “set it and forget it” mode which is nice as you can just leave it on all day without having to adjust anything. The moment the sensor detects any air anomaly or pollutants, the machine will automatically adjust purification speed to quickly clean the air.

At the back, there is a Light button to let you adjust the OLED display brightness, and the same button can be used to connect the machine to the Mi Home app. The app will automatically scan and detect the machine and the whole process was pretty seamless in my experience.

You can see through the OLED display the current air quality in the room (the lower the better, with an additional Green/Yellow/Orange/Red indicator) in real-time.

Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 also releases negative ions to keep the air fresh but this feature can be turned on and off via the app.

Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 is an excellent, high-performing air purifier that can fit in any modern home, inside a larger room to clean the air from pollutants and eliminate odours. It has a nice, modern design with OLED display, accurate sensor, high-performing air filtration, and impressively large area coverage.

It’s massive 3-in-1 filter can trap all kinds of different things within, making sure that all kinds of pollutants and odours stay there and what you get, is clean air within the room in big volume.

The machine can also be cleaned, in and out, including its sensor and filter compartment and replacing the air filter is a breeze. Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 is available now at Panmi and retails for A$349.95 (currently on sale for A$299). Also available at Amazon.com.
