The motorola razr Lineup Expands with the New razr 50

motorola’s iconic razr series just got even more interesting with the latest razr 50, bringing some notable improvements to the foldable smartphone scene in Australia. As someone who’s seen the evolution of foldable phones, I’m particularly intrigued by its significantly larger external display.

The standout feature has to be that 3.6-inch external screen – it’s 2.4 times larger than the previous model and actually useful for daily tasks. You can reply to messages, control your Spotify playlist, or even navigate with Google Maps without flipping the phone open. This doesn’t look like a gimmick; it’s genuinely practical for quick interactions.

In terms of design, motorola’s gone with some interesting finishes this time. The razr 50 comes in Beach Sand and Spritz Orange with vegan leather, plus a Koala Grey in vegan suede. The build quality feels solid, with Gorilla Glass Victus protecting that external display and IPX8 water resistance rating letting it survive a 1.5-meter dunk for up to 30 minutes.

The camera setup is quite comprehensive – you’re getting a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), paired with a 13MP ultra-wide that doubles as a macro lens. For selfies, there’s a 32MP front camera when you flip open the phone. The camera system uses Quad Pixel technology, which should help in low-light situations.

Under the hood, it’s running on MediaTek’s new Dimensity 7300X processor – interestingly, it’s one of the first flip phones to use this chip. Battery life shouldn’t be an issue with its 4200mAh capacity, supported by 30W TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging capabilities.

What’s particularly clever is the software implementation. The external display isn’t just for show – it runs a full suite of apps and even includes Google’s Gemini AI integration. The customisation options through Hello UX let you personalise everything from fonts to icons, and there are some neat gesture controls like twisting your wrist to open the camera.

The razr 50 is exclusively available through Optus in Australia, priced at A$1,198.80 outright. You can also get it on an OptusPay plan if you prefer to spread the cost.
