Switch on Freedom

For the past few years, there had been shocking news in relation to our privacy online. Lots of people quit Facebook (and Whatsapp, bought by Facebook) to protect their online privacy. People protested when they found out NSA surveillance snooped into their privacy too much for the sake of national security. Even Apple had to explain that their TouchID data are stored inside the iPhones and will never be transferred anywhere else.

On the other side of the world, people’s access to the digital world are being blocked. Websites and search engine results are filtered. Some countries even block social media services altogether.

Inside this whole mess, F-Secure‘s renowned security and privacy expert, Mikko Hyppönen, and F-Secure Freedome ambasador, David Hasselhoff (yes, that David Hasselhoff) are inviting you to join a movement for digital freedom. This needs to stop now.

You are invited to join in the writing F-Secure Digital Freedom manifesto from 6th of May until 30th of June 2014. This manifesto will be available for public where you can contribute into the creation of this document. You don’t need to be a lawyer or a smooth talker, but you can throw in a couple of sentences on ideas or opinions into the document.

The best inputs will make it to the final copy of the document, which will be published by F-Secure and passed to international decision maker, influential organisations and important office holder.

It will be a crowdsourced document licensed under creative commons, outlining these 4 major points/themes:

  • Mass Surveillance
  • Digital Persecution
  • Digital Colonization
  • Right of Access, Movement and Speech

Of course, your privacy here is of utmost importance too, so your details (apart from the IP address to ensure the quality of the document) will not be logged or be used to identify you.
