Even though DSLR cameras take better quality shots in general compared to point-and-shoot cameras, they are quite bulky to carry. Most of the time, I can't be bothered carrying my DSLR camera along with me. On formal events like wedding receptions, I can't be bothered carrying one with a strap around my neck. Not to mention that I have to keep an eye on it every time I go to the toilet or mingle around with other people.
Sony Cyber-shot™ digital cameras promise both portability and quality and they have quite a good range of cameras to suit your style and needs.
There are a few in the series and they are categorised in 4 different segments.
Professional Compact
For professional photographers, you might want to get the best and the greatest. If you are in this category, then you may want to get the DSC-RX100 that offers a 20.2 megapixels with 4x optical zoom. Or if you crave for more, the DSC-RX1 is a Full Frame 24.3MP sensor with F2.0, more than enough for your photography needs. It is equipped with an F2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, which is top of the range.
High Performance The Cyber-shot™ High Performance range includes cameras equipped with wide-angle lenses with awesome optical zoom capabilities. For example, the DSC-HX200V has a 27mm wide angle and 30x optical zoom lens!
It's probably one of the best point-and-shoot cameras to be brought to a sport event, so you can take that photo up, close, and personal!
Portable and Powerful
If you don't like to be carrying a bulkier model, then there are a few digital cameras in this range that provide portability, yet still powerful enough to take decent shots.
Some of them still have a 10x optical zoom and can take great shots even in a low lit environment. Slim and Stylish If being slim is all you want from a point-and-shoot camera, then the DSC-TX20 is your best buy. The DSC-TX20 can also shoot underwater (up to 5 metres of depth), 16.2 megapixels, and has a 4x optical zoom lens.
There is no best camera, because you have to compromise size with the quality at the end. However, depends on your needs, you can grab a great camera that suits your needs and at the same time, shoot great quality pictures! I love the looks and capabilities of the RX1, but you definitely have to pay for that amount of awesomeness. It has an RRP of £2,599.00 at the moment.
