Overwatch Season 2: Reign of Talon introduces new DPS Hero Sierra and Operation Grand Mesa Event

Following the major shake-up from Season 1, Overwatch’s Reign of Talon continues its momentum with Season 2, delivering a fresh DPS hero alongside her own dedicated limited-time event packed with lore. The update also brings back post-match celebrations, reworks the Antarctic Peninsula map, introduces new Mythic skins and weapon skins, updates Stadium mode, refreshes certain hero perks, and adds Spring-themed cosmetics across the board.

And we thought the team was only making a big bang for Season 1. This is another major update.

Sierra – My Impressions

Sierra, the new DPS hero, fights with a rifle, deploys a combat drone called Dorothy, and delivers mobility and sustained damage output, making her a dynamic addition to the DPS roster.

In my opinion, Sierra can be devastating in a close to medium range. At long range, you’d get more value out of using Ashe, Emre, or even Soldier 76 due to the hitscan property and that the hits would be more consistent. At close range, if you manage to hit your Tracking Shot and have the Locked In Major perk, you’ll eliminate enemies very quickly.

Doroty (the drone) is proven very useful as a mobility tool for Sierra to get to high ground quickly – or even to do some cheeky, quick flanking to later follow up with her ultimate, Trailblazer. The ultimate is very high damaging and usually ends up with either eliminating a few enemies, or leaving them in critical health that your team can finish up easily.

Here’s my POTG when playing Sierra:

All in all, a really good hero to add into the roster but won’t be replacing my Cassidy or Ashe as my main DPS – except maybe on maps with many corners like Kings Row.

Operation Grand Mesa Event

The three-week Operation Grand Mesa event runs from season launch on April 14 until May 4, letting players experience the aftermath of Sierra’s stand against Talon. Rather than simply watching cutscenes, you’ll unlock lore progressively by playing matches and completing curated challenges. The event tracks your progress through four distinct beats via a dedicated UI, so you always know where you stand and what’s coming next. Rewards include voice lines, an icon, a name card, a rare title, a spray, Battle Pass tier skips, and loot boxes.

Post-match Votes

If you are an Overwatch 1 veteran back in the days, you’d remember the post-match voting cards that allowed you to vote not only a member of your team, but also the enemy’s. Cards varied from tanks who do a lot of damage mitigations, a DPS who did X solo kills, and many more. This is the place where you’d vote for the match’s MVP and I really loved this – and sad at the same time when it was taken away in Overwatch 2.

Thankfully, they are back! You can even opt into voice chat once the victory lineup appears, creating a more social transition into that MVP moment (if you want to, I probably don’t). Categories include great sportsmanship, team player, clutch saves, and game-changing pressure. It’s an awesome change.

Antarctic Peninsula Rework

Antarctic Peninsula receives a comprehensive rework focused on creating cleaner engagements, smoother team pushes, and more meaningful flank routes throughout the frozen terrain. Icebreaker now features stronger ship theming with streamlined flanks and new alternate paths flowing naturally toward the objective. Research Station opens up its main chokepoint and adds a new backside flank for better pushing and pressure application options. Underground has been updated with higher ceilings, simplified layouts, and clearer staging areas to improve visibility and overall fight flow.

They are subtle but visible changes when I played in this map.

Mythic Skins and Weapon Skins

Two new Mythic items arrive this season: Soldier 76’s Mythic skin (called Volted Overdrive Soldier 76) and Genji’s Mythic Weapon skin (called Sumi-ichimonji). Soldier’s Mythic skin Level 1 unlocks an ability VFX toggle adding biotech flair to your arsenal. Level 2 adds two additional hairstyles. Level 3 introduces red/black and white/blue colourways that enhance your cybernetic details. Level 4 unlocks the ambient VFX toggle, making sparks fly to solidify your Mythic battlefield presence.

Sumi-ichimonji Genji Weapon Skin blends traditional ink calligraphy influence with Genji’s classic dragon identity across four levels. Level 1 establishes your Mythic presence through unique ink and dragon details. Level 2 adds reactivity with flowing splatter effects. Level 3 unlocks two flourish animations celebrating eliminations by spinning shuriken in different variations. Level 4 masters the blade with kill VFX where ink follows your command as you slash through enemies.

Stadium Update

Stadium mode introduces Ramattra this season while Juno receives reworks for better balance and reliability. Seasonal resets are being replaced with a decay system for smoother competitive transitions. And Jetpack Cat will be coming into Stadium at midseason as well and from the trailer, looks like it can now carry two teammates in one go if you want to.

I haven’t been playing Stadium for a while but definitely itching to go back and try it out again (just because I needed to compile some clips while reviewing the Razer Viper V4 Pro).

Perks’ Changes

The Perks mini refresh gives several heroes new options for more flexibility. Ramattra gains Prolonged Barrier, a minor perk increasing Void Barrier’s size and duration by 25%. Pharah gains a new minor perk letting Concussive Blast deal up to 50 explosion damage. Reaper gains Trigger Finger, a new major perk refreshing Dire Trigger’s cooldown when using an ability and reloading. Soldier 76 gains Agility Training, a major perk increasing Sprint speed by up to 60% after two seconds of sprinting. Mercy gains Double Dose, a major perk giving Flash Heal an additional charge. Some heroes will see select perks moved into their baseline kits to balance these additions.

Pharah can now move while unleashing her ultimate skill which is nice, but I don’t like Rammatra’s change – probably because I play him quite a lot and like the original perks better.

New Cosmetics

Plenty of new skins and themes this Season!

Shop collections include Crimson Court (April 14 – May 4) featuring Doomfist, Anran, Widowmaker, Kiriko, and Pharah draped in deep reds and shadow with regal splendour. The Sakura collection (April 14 – May 4) brings soft looks inspired by cherry blossoms to Hanzo, Genji, Freja, Juno, Emre, and Junker Queen with traditional designs ranging from light and whimsical to sharper aesthetics. Overwatch x LE SSERAFIM returns for a third collaboration from April 14-27, bringing all 15 dazzling Legendary skins including FEARLESS, Blue Flame, and original collab skins with vibrant colours and standout details like Ashe’s dynamite with RGB effects.

The Sakura collection is pretty good:

And if you like Anran or play her, you should definitely get her Crimson Court skin. It’s really, really good looking.

As for the Season 2 Battle Pass itself, it loads up with seasonal cosmetics, Legendary and Epic skins, currencies, and up to 80 Mythic Prisms to unlock either Volted Overdrive Soldier 76 or Genji’s Sumi-ichimonji Weapon Skin. The Premium Battle Pass features Legendary Spring Fairies skins for Ashe, Lifeweaver, Moira, Wuyang, and Echo. The Ultimate Battle Pass adds Spring Fairy Illari and Painter Sierra, plus 20 tier skips and 2,000 Overwatch Coins.

There are more updates coming. From April 28-May 11, the 4v4 Evolved All Emre mode puts four Emres against four Emres in team deathmatch with tuned kits making everyone more lethal. Fights move quickly with mistakes punished fast, requiring solid map control and teamwork from every Emre on your squad.

Overwatch also arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 with improved visuals, higher fidelity audio, and up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld mode, delivering a cleaner and crisper portable experience whilst maintaining cross-play with friends wherever you are.

While you’re here, here’s a quick clip of Overwatch while on my Razer Viper V4 Pro mouse:
