mophie speedport 120 review – mophie announced their speedport wall chargers made with GaN (Gallium Nitride) a couple of months ago. GaN chargers are highly efficient, compact chargers that can quickly charge your modern devices including smartphones, tablets, and even modern laptops like my HUAWEI MateBook X Pro.
The new, available speedport wall chargers are speedport 30, speedport 45, speedport 67, and speedport 120 (which is what I have here for you today). mophie speedport 120 can deliver a maximum power output of 120W so it can charge most modern laptops (which usually requires around 65-70W of power).
The speedport 120 has four USB ports:
- 3x USB-C PD ports
- 1x USB-A port for compatibility to older devices
So yes, you can technically charge up to four devices simultaneously using this GaN charger. The power is shared so the more devices you connect or charge, the less power it would get. The first USB-C port has access to 100W of power of maximum so you can use it to charge your MacBook Pro or other laptops.
They are clearly labelled so you don’t need to remember which port has what kinds of power output too.
I’ve tested the GaN charger to charge my HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2020 along with other devices like smartphones, smartwatches, gaming peripherals, and audio devices simultaneously and it’s been doing a great job so far.
I personally like that it has an off-wall design so you can plug it to a wall socket or powerboard without interfering with the other plugs nearby. And you can also place the speedport 120 on the desk or somewhere more accessible. There’s even a strap for cable management, so that’s an extra bonus too.
If you’ve just got your new iPhone 14 then obviously you can use this charger to charge your new iPhone too at much faster speed. But if you don’t have a new laptop that can be charged via USB-C, then you can probably save some money and get the lower spec GaN charger like the speedport 30 or 45.
