The Logitech MK950 is a combo mouse and keyboard designed to increase productivity and convenience, especially for those working across multiple computers, such as a work laptop and personal desktop PC. It’s perfect for my situation, as I have a laptop from work but also a personal desktop. While I can work directly from the laptop, its small keyboard and trackpad are not ideal for extended use.
Typing feels cramped on the laptop keyboard, and manoeuvring the cursor isn’t as quick and accurate as I’d like. That’s why I always use an external mouse and keyboard, like this Logitech Slim Keyboard Combo MK950.
LOGITECH SLIM KEYBOARD COMBO MK950 REVIEW – PACKAGING CONTENTS
The combo comes with the Logi Bolt USB receiver, allowing wireless connectivity. Both keyboard and mouse can connect to this single USB receiver. You can conveniently store the receiver inside the keyboard or the mouse, as both have a slot in the battery compartment for storage
LOGITECH SLIM KEYBOARD COMBO MK950 REVIEW – DESIGN AND FEATURES
Both the keyboard and mouse support both Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing connection to up to 3 different devices with different operating systems, using different connectivity options. This flexibility extends to modern devices such as smartphones and tablets. Furthermore, you can even transfer files between connected computers through the Logi Options+ App (assuming all devices have the app installed), which is quite magical.
Installing the Logi Options+ App enables further customisation of the peripherals, including creating Smart Actions and switching between Function keys.
According to Logitech, the keyboard boasts up to 36 months of battery life, while the mouse offers up to 24 months – obviously depending on usage. They are powered by AA batteries.
THE KEYBOARD
The keyboard features a flat, compact design, making it easy to carry in a backpack or suitcase. I always carry my main keyboard and mouse for work whenever I travel interstate or overseas (the Logitech Wave Keys Keyboard and Lift Vertical Mouse). While compact, it doesn’t sacrifice functionality, offering a full-sized keyboard with adequate key spacing. Dedicated keys allow switching between 3 devices, and function keys provide access to controls such as laptop brightness and multimedia controls.
Actually, I feel that it’s longer than the standard keyboards I’ve used so far. If you are using it on a small desk, it may occupy quite an amount of space. On the other hand, while the keyboard feels long (433mm), this design makes it more comfortable to type and Logitech can fit more buttons and features on the keyboard.
For example, you have dedicated keys to switch between 3 devices so if you do this frequently, you’ll appreciate the dedicated keys. Through function keys, you can also access more controls like laptop brightness and multimedia controls.
The keys are pretty tactile without generating much noise and really nice to type with. I did a keyboard test at typingtest.com (1 minute, medium text) and could get 111 WPM (Words Per Minute). In fact, I’m typing this review article using the MK950 keyboard right now.
The Mouse
As for the MK950 mouse (which is the Signature Plus Mouse M750), I also like how compact it is but at the same time, the design team doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Sure, it’s a small mouse so if you have big hands, then it might become a problem for you if you are going to use it all day. For average people with small to medium hands, the mouse is great to use. If you have small hands on a claw/fingertip grip like myself, you are going to love the mouse.
It’s shaped to the contour of your hand and fingers, plus the right thumb area has a rougher edge, making it easier to grip the mouse.
The scroll wheel has good enough resistance without making your finger tired after lots of scrolling (which I do a lot as a programmer) and the button is also silent, thanks to Logitech’s SilentTouch technology that produces 90% less click noise compared to the Logitech M185.
Switching between devices can be done conveniently at the bottom of the mouse.
LOGITECH SIGNATURE SLIM COMBO MK950 REVIEW CONCLUSION
Logitech Signature Slim Combo MK950 offers a big boost to your productivity workflow. If you are only using the keyboard and mouse in a single computer/device, you will still get some value out of them, sure. However, the hidden gems can only be unlocked and felt when you have to deal with multiple devices as you can switch between them fairly instantly, and Logitech also has a few advanced features available to make your work among multiple devices easier and more magical.
Logitech Signature Slim Combo MK950 is available now and retails for A$169.95. It can be purchased at retailers around Australia and Logitech AU website.
