When using and reviewing gaming headsets, I usually look at multiple factors like design, build quality, features, and comfort – but one thing that I always highlight is the audio positioning. Audio positioning is very important especially when you are playing competitive first person shooter like Counterstrike 2, Valorant, or Overwatch 2.

This is because being able to pinpoint the location of your enemies during a game is the difference between winning and losing – especially when flankers are involved. Missing this information will most likely cause the death of a teammate or worse, multiple teammates. However, if your gaming headset has excellent audio positioning and you can hear this information plus communicate that to your teammates quickly, you will give your headset a pat on the back.

And that is what I’ve been doing with this latest wireless gaming headset from CORSAIR.

CORSAIR VOID WIRELESS V2 REVIEW – PACKAGING CONTENTS AND UNBOXING

The CORSAIR VOID WIRELESS V2 comes in a simple but effective packaging. Inside the box, you’ll find the headset itself, a USB-C charging cable, the wireless USB-A dongle for 2.4GHz connectivity, and the usual documentation.

CORSAIR VOID WIRELESS V2 REVIEW – DESIGN AND FEATURES

If you look at the price (A$189 RRP), you’d probably judge it as a budget gaming headset that you should frown upon and assume its market is only for casual gamers. Honestly, that’s what I thought at first too. To my surprise, this is probably one of the most valued gaming headsets I’ve ever tried.

The budget cut is definitely apparent in the materials used for the headset. It’s mostly covered by plastic so it will not look as premium as the Virtuoso line, for example. But the design team has done their best to make the headset not as boring as a plain, hard-plastic shell. Many parts of the headset are polished with different finishing materials, a mixture of white and grey colour theme (on my review unit), plus small finishing touches here and there like the CORSAIR logo, subtle LED, and meshes for comfort. The textured matte finish wraps it all up nicely.

Also, thanks to the materials, the headset weighs less compared to more premium materials which makes the VOID WIRELESS V2 comfortable to wear for hours. It weighs 303 grams and when I wear it, it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to pull me down or make my ears hurt from the force.

A breathable mesh material used for the headband and ear cushions guarantees cooler ears compared to leather, a perfect material for Summer or when you are gaming for hours in a non-air-conditioned room. The earcups can be rotated so you can lay the headset flat on the desk, or rest it around your neck comfortably without feeling strangled.

There are crucial hard button controls on the headset, including a power button and volume control dial. There is also a button to switch between two connectivity options (Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless) with textured surface so you can easily identify it with the touch of your finger without looking.

The microphone is Omni-Directional and can’t be detached. You can flip it up and down though to mute/unmute instantly, and the boom is flexible so you can adjust it to your preference.

There are two small LED strips on the top sides though honestly you can live without them. You can change the colour through iCUE and even turn them off to save more battery.

Sound wise, the VOID WIRELESS V2 is powered by custom-tuned 50mm drivers and they actually sound really good for the price. You can definitely still enjoy your music and movies with the headset. I’ve used it for music listening and really like the sound signature. The bass is boomy and punchy, and as a Bass player, it gets a tick from me. Watching movies with the headset gives immersion and perfect noise isolation.

According to CORSAIR, the headset can last around up to 70 hours via 2.4GHz or up to 130 hours via Bluetooth. I didn’t actually count or take notes, but suffice to say that I had to rarely charge the headset during my 2-week review. You can at least take a 15-minute break to charge the headset which will provide up to 6 more hours of battery life. That’s pretty awesome.

CORSAIR VOID V2 WIRELESS REVIEW – GAMING EXPERIENCE

One thing for sure, this headset is excellent in delivering audio positioning. I’ve been using the headset to play Overwatch 2’s newest game mode, Stadium (Ranked) for the past couple of weeks and it’s been a really solid experience. The headset simply delivers in all aspects for gaming. I could hear everything that’s going on in the game (footsteps, weapon firing, reloading, and more) and even pinpoint all incoming and flanking enemies at once.

With limited heroes selection at the moment, you’ll get flankers frequently like Soldier 76, Genji, and Reaper dominating your games. In all games, I managed to warn my team early when I heard someone trying to make a sneaky move in the backline. While playing DPS, I was almost always on guard duty to our support simply because I often was the first one who knew when someone was coming behind the walls.

Check out these two quick highlight videos showing how completely aware I was to anticipate where the enemies were by listening to their footsteps – and took care of them early.

CORSAIR VOID V2 WIRELESS REVIEW CONCLUSION

CORSAIR VOID V2 WIRELESS is a surprise. It costs less than A$200 but its value is more than what you bargain for. It has excellent audio positioning, good audio quality, comfort, long battery life, and a stylish design as a gaming headset.

To me, audio positioning is the most important aspect of a gaming headset and this one nails it. The headset also includes the modern option of switching between the 2.4GHz Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, further increasing its value.

Though, you probably don’t want to wear the headset outside while you are commuting. While technically you can (thanks to the Bluetooth support), it’s a bit bulky and you can’t detach the microphone boom, making it less suitable for public use.

For casual and competitive gamers who don’t want to spend over A$200 for a good gaming headset, the CORSAIR VOID WIRELESS V2 should definitely be on your consideration list. It delivers where it matters most for gaming while keeping the price accessible. The excellent battery life is just icing on the cake, making this one of the best affordable wireless gaming headsets currently available.
