Note: This is a guest post written by Jeeva Shanmugam – After months of rumors and leaks, Samsung finally conducted its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023 yesterday. There, the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series and Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Series were formally introduced.
The most recent Samsung flagship smartphone range is comprised of the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, namely the S23 series. And as anticipated, there are four devices in the Galaxy Book Series: the high-end Galaxy Book Ultra, the 14″ Galaxy Book Pro, the 16″ Galaxy Book Pro, and the 360″ Galaxy Book Pro. Let’s look at the new Galaxy Book Series and its features.
Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Series
The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, Book 3, and Book 3 Pro 360 notebooks were formally unveiled during the Unpacked event. Compared to the existing Samsung laptop portfolio, the laptops provide major advances.
In addition to a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh rate, Intel 13th generation core CPUs, Windows 11 OS, and an optional 5G connectivity option, the new Galaxy Book devices also have several other features. The Galaxy Book 3 Pro has a slim and light clamshell design, while the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 has a 2-in-1 convertible form factor with S Pen capabilities.
Samsung Galaxy Book Pro Features and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Pro 16” is running Windows 11 with a 16-inch screen that has a resolution of 1800×2880 pixels. It has 32GB of RAM and a Core i7 CPU as its power source. 1TB of SSD storage is included with the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro.
The 13th Gen Intel Core i5/Core i7 CPUs with Intel Iris Xe Graphics power the laptops. The machines come with 256GB/512GB/1TB SSD PCIe storage and 8GB/16GB/32GB LPDDR5 RAM. Out of the box, both Samsung laptops have operating systems Windows 11.
Intel Iris Xe is used to power the graphics. There are Bluetooth connectivity choices as well as 3 USB ports (1 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type A)), Thunderbolt 4 (Type C), HDMI Port, Multi Card Slot, Headphone and Mic Combo Jack connections, and Bluetooth.
Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 Features and Specifications
A 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X 3K display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 2880 x 1800 pixels resolution, 400 nits of brightness, an adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate, and 120% color coverage is included on the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360.
The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i7 or Core i9 processor from the 13th generation, together with Intel Iris Xe graphics. The laptop has 256GB/512GB/1TB SSD storage with an expansion port and 8GB/16GB/32GB LPDDR5 RAM.
These are the main differences between the Samsung Galaxy Book Pros, not huge upgrades but a decent upgrade, and one of the best Windows laptops to buy right now.
Samsung Galaxy Book Ultra
Samsung is copying Apple’s ecosystem play to compete with it. The business has been gradually extending its Galaxy ecosystem of devices and unique software features over the last few years.
Samsung Galaxy Book Ultra Features and Specifications
A large 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with WQXGA+ resolution (2,880 x 1,800 pixels), a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate, 400 nits of average brightness, and up to 500 nits of peak brightness under HDR has been added by Samsung to the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. Samsung claims to have a color spectrum coverage of up to 120% of DCI-P3.
Samsung loaded the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra with a maximum Intel Core i9-13900H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 8GB VRAM, 32GB LPDDR5 RAM, and a maximum 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD to run the 3K screen at a 120Hz refresh rate.
With an Intel Core i7-13700H processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, the laptop’s entry-level model is equipped (with 6GB VRAM). It outperforms the most recent 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 Max processor in terms of graphics performance.
Two 2W tweeters for high-frequency sounds and two 5W woofers for mid- and low-frequency sounds make up the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra’s AKG-tuned quad-speaker system. The speakers in this laptop are the greatest Samsung has ever utilized. Additionally, it contains two studio-caliber microphones. It also has Dolby Atmos compatibility and Smart AMP for the loudspeakers.
Samsung has added a fingerprint reader, a full-sized backlit keyboard, a sizable Windows Precision touchpad, and a Full HD camera to the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. The camera provides background blur, auto framing, and other enhancement functions. The laptop has Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Type-A connector, one HDMI 1.4 port, and one 3.5mm headphone jack among its connectivity options.
The 76Wh battery within the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra supports 100W rapid charging using the included USB Type-C PD charger. It comes in the shade of Graphite. The laptop weighs about 1.79kg and has a thickness of 16.5mm (lightweight for the size). For a high-quality build, it sports an aluminum unibody frame.
Especially like the Galaxy Book Ultra for its ecosystem, one of my favorite software features of the Galaxy Book Ultra is the “Expert RAW Auto Share” which instantly opens RAW photos taken with a Galaxy smartphone on the PC and transmits them to the Adobe Lightroom application. And The Galaxy Book Smart Switch enables you to move data from an older PC to a laptop. In order to prevent downloads, Private Exchange enables you to share files discreetly.
Samsung Galaxy Book Series Price and Availability
The Galaxy Book3 Pro, Book3 Pro 360, and Book3 Ultra aren’t expected to ship until later this month, but you can place a preorder for them now for as little as $1,449.99.
One of the most feature-rich Windows laptops, the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra competes with Apple’s most recent MacBook Pro. Pre-orders have already begun, but they won’t be available until February 22, 2023.
