D-Link releases their first MU-MIMO router (AC5300)

D-Link MU-MIMO DIR-895LD-Link has officially released a new AC5300 MU-MIMO (MultiUser-MultiInputMultiOutput if you don’t know what it is) router, the DIR-895L.

Taking the design from the original D-Link DIR-890L that I’ve reviewed in the past, D-LINK DIR-895L definitely bears a similar resemblance and we are not complaining. Its design is unique and proven to look awesome inside the house.

DIR-895L full specifications and features:

  • 1.4GHz Dual Core Processor
  • Tri-Band Wi-Fi 5332Mpbs (1000Mbps @2.4GHz + 2166Mbps @5GHz + 2166Mbps @5GHz).
  • 4×4 Data Streams
  • MU-MIMO Technology
  • Smart Connect
  • Advanced AC SmartBeam

MU-MIMO technology is still new and not fully utilised yet, but it is definitely the future where multiple data can be streamed simultaneously to multiple devices from the router. The devices have to support the technology, however, and not many do at the moment. I wrote a more detailed explanation about MU-MIMO technology when I was reviewing the Netgear Nighthawk X4S modem router early this year.

D-Link DIR-895 also features 8 antennas to maximise coverage (compared to fewer ones on the DIR-890L) for harder-to-reach areas inside your home or office.

Sure, you can go and purchase the cheaper DIR-890L now but if you are investing for the future, a router with MU-MIMO support is definitely the way to go. It will give you the lightning speed and stability to your wireless network for the years to come.

It’s available now to purchase through official D-Link DIR-895L Australia website and major retailers in Australia. If you live in the U.S, you can also grab one from Amazon.
