SanDisk has unveiled a major rebrand for its internal SSD range at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026), introducing SanDisk Optimus as the new umbrella name for drives previously sold under the WD_BLACK and WD Blue brands. The move consolidates the company’s gaming, creator, and professional storage solutions under one performance-focused identity.
The SanDisk Optimus family splits into three distinct product lines, each targeting specific user needs and performance tiers. SanDisk Optimus serves as the entry point, offering balanced speed and affordability for content creators who need reliable performance without breaking the bank. These drives replace what was previously known as WD Blue, including models like the WD Blue SN5100 NVMe SSD.
Moving up the range, SanDisk Optimus GX takes aim at gamers who prioritise fast load times and expanded capacity. This line succeeds the WD_BLACK gaming drives, including the WD_BLACK SN7100 NVMe SSD, with a focus on power efficiency alongside raw speed.
At the top sits SanDisk Optimus GX PRO, the flagship tier designed for professionals, developers, and enthusiasts building AI PCs, workstations, or high-end gaming rigs. These drives represent the absolute peak of the company’s storage technology, combining cutting-edge engineering with maximum capacity. The GX PRO range includes what was formerly the WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD and similar high-performance models.
The new branding comes with redesigned packaging and product aesthetics that draw from SanDisk’s flash memory heritage while creating space for future expansion. According to Anil Moolchandani, VP Product Management Client at SanDisk, the rebrand reflects the strength of the underlying products.
The transition from WD_BLACK and WD Blue to SanDisk Optimus begins immediately, with updated products expected to appear at select retailers worldwide during the first half of 2026. Customers can visit SandiskOptimus.com or follow the brand on Instagram and Facebook for more information on availability and specifications.
