Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Drop Test – How Does It Fare?

Allstate Protection Plans has put Samsung’s claims of creating their “most durable Ultra device ever” to the test, with surprising results for the new Galaxy S25 Ultra flagship smartphone.

In rigorous testing conducted at Allstate’s Brisbane facility, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s premium build quality – featuring a titanium frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Armor 2 – showed mixed performance when subjected to controlled drops from six feet onto concrete surfaces.

The testing revealed some concerning vulnerabilities, particularly in the front-facing drop test. Despite Corning’s assertion that their Gorilla Glass Armor 2 can withstand drops from 7.2 feet, the S25 Ultra’s screen malfunctioned after a single six-foot drop, with the display showing significant damage including shattered glass and display malfunction. While the device’s haptic feedback and buttons remained functional, the phone became essentially unusable.

Back-facing drops resulted in shattered glass and visible panel deformation, though the device maintained its core functionality including camera operations. The titanium frame proved more resilient during side-impact testing, sustaining only minor cosmetic damage while preserving all device functions.

In an interesting twist, the testing team consulted the phone’s built-in Google Gemini AI about protection strategies. The AI recommended practical solutions including using protective cases, screen protectors, and phone grips – sound advice considering the device’s premium price point.

The comprehensive testing programme, which Allstate Protection Plans has conducted since 2013, provides consumers with independent assessments of device durability. Their standardised robotic tests simulate real-world damage scenarios, evaluating both physical durability and the impact on advanced features like the S25 Ultra’s ProVisual Engine and Circle to Search capabilities.

While AI features remained operational on devices that sustained back and side impacts, the front-impact damage rendered all AI functions unusable on that particular unit, highlighting the critical relationship between hardware integrity and advanced software features.
