I have been water flossing for many years, and for me, it works wonders. My evening routine involves water flossing and then brushing my teeth with Oclean X Ultra S electric toothbrush.

I used to have Periodontitis (gum disease), simply because I wasn’t flossing at all – and I’m sure many of you still don’t. I hated dental floss, and if you do too, it’s time to try out water flossing. A traditional water flosser usually uses a stream jet of water aimed at your gum pockets and in-between teeth, pushing all the food residue away.

Some may not like the messy feel with water coming out of your mouth non-stop, so if this is you or if you want to try out something else than a dental floss, you might want to give this Oclean A10 AirPump Portable Water Flosser a try. According to Oclean, the AirPump A10 has been specifically designed for orthodontic users and people with sensitive gums too.

The AirPump A10 takes a different approach to cleaning. It efficiently removes residue between teeth (and braces, if you’re wearing them) using a diffused spray by combining air and water. Using a high-pressure air pump which compresses air to 150kPa and releases it instantly in 0.14 seconds, the air is constantly mixed with water to create continuous sprays of oxygenated bubbles.

The AirPump A10 water flosser can achieve up to 99% plaque removal, which is impressive. While it’s promised to be gentle on gums, I don’t really find it so. It comes with three settings: Standard, Soft, and Massage. However, it feels like you still get the same air pressure on all settings but Soft and Massage will give you more breaks in-between.

As someone who normally water flosses on the highest settings, I was quite surprised by how intense the air pressure felt. You’ll learn to get used to it after using it for a week or so, but I did get gum bleeding while using the AirPump A10 a few times. Your experience might vary, though.

After persisting, I found that the Oclean AirPump A10 cleans as effectively as my regular water flosser. I can actually see all the food residue coming out from my mouth. The compact, portable, palm-sized design makes it easy to manoeuvre inside the mouth and simple to use.

Weighing just 135 grams, it’s significantly smaller compared to traditional portable water flossers like their Oclean W10. The trade-off for this portability is a smaller water reservoir – while I can usually finish flossing in one go, sometimes I need to refill once for a more thorough clean (the reservoir is visible from outside so you can check the water level too). Fortunately, filling the water is straightforward so it’s not really a big deal.

Battery life is impressive at up to 40 days when using Standard mode once per day. The device charges via USB-C and includes a helpful low battery indicator.
