Gamesir G8 Galileo Mobile Gaming Controller Review – Design and Features
I fell in love with the sleek design and matte finish of \the GameSir G8 Galileo. It feels like holding my first PlayStation controller from the late ’90s, but for playing mobile games instead of console games. With the telescopic design, it can be expanded up to 18.5 cm. It comes with three spare joysticks that we can use based on our preferences. The magnetic detachable faceplates make it easy to change the joystick. The movable Type-C port allows me to attach my phone with the case to GameSir G8 Galileo, although it might not work with a thick protective phone case.
It also comes equipped with pass-through charging, so there’s no need to worry about running out of battery while playing our favorite games. While I’m not a big fan of wired headphones for mobile games, GameSir equipped the G8 Galileo with a 3.5mm audio jack next to the pass-through charging socket at the bottom of the controller, which is a plus for anyone who prefers wired headphones.
On the back of the GameSir G8 Galileo, there’s a very useful feature attached – on-the-fly mappings, so we don’t even need to download the GameSir app to program the controller while playing games.
I’m using an ROG 5 phone with this controller, and unfortunately, it doesn’t fit perfectly (as you can see in the photo) because the ROG 5’s charging port is slightly on the left side of the phone, but this is not GameSir’s fault. However, it doesn’t affect the performance of the GameSir G8 Galileo. I didn’t even realize that the phone still fits with the case on, but the GameSir G8 Galileo attaches to the phone beautifully.
I played some games on this controller, and for an FPS game like Combat Master, this controller gave us many advantages. With numerous buttons that can be set, it’s easier to control FPS games. Adjusting the volume while gaming is also convenient; we can press the home button with the D-pad’s up/down as a shortcut for volume settings.
It offers three gaming modes that we can easily switch by pressing the view button and menu button, changing the color of the home button. The three gaming modes are PS mode, Android mode, and G-touch mode. This makes the GameSir G8 Galileo an almost perfect mobile controller. They provide some videos on their website to set up this controller, making it much easier to understand the capabilities of the G8 Galileo.
