Unlike Google’s URL shortener, goo.gl, you don’t need a toolbar or a firefox extension to shorten YouTube’s movie URL. Simply replace “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=” with “http://youtu.be/”.
So for example, instead of watching my SteelSeries Xai gaming mouse unboxing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVBXxweBPE0, you can use http://youtu.be/HVBXxweBPE0 instead!
So I guess Flickr will be the next in having its own URL shortener?

Actually, flickr already HAS their own URL shortener way before goo.gl. See here:

This can make a lot of things more easier =)
Its look like giant web company killing small specialized service like bit.ly, cli.gs etc for their own purpose. That not good at all but we have to wait how people take it.

I don’t see any other reason except for “Brand Promotion” when it comes to such tactics. How can Youtube stay behind when FaceBook and Google and Taking on each other?
