PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 Review (Standard/Wireless Charging version)

Having tried various car mounts over the years, reviewing PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 comes as fresh air to me. As a member of PITAKA PitaFlow series, this car mount uses a less-common type of hook-style attachment that I have not previously used, so I was quite excited to see if they are as reliable as they look, and whether they will be my new permanent car mount and take the throne on my dashboard.

Unboxing

The back of the box contains quite a bit more detailed information, such as the model (B2302) and maximum charging speed (up to 15W).

Inside the box you will find the car mount hook, the magnetic base, a USB-C to USB-C to connect the base to your car charger (not included) and a couple of cable fasteners with foam sticker backing to allow you to secure the cable on dashboard to minimise tangle and reduce driving distractions.

Craftsmanship and Quality

Made out of premium materials of aramid fiber, PC and ABS, PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 reflects quite a meticulous attention to detail, especially considering the price point of this device. The matte finish adds a bit of a luxurious feel and integrates seamlessly with the aesthetics of most dashboards.

Installation

PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 uses a “turn to release, fasten, and secure” method. Having tried all different kinds of vent-style phone car mounts, I find this type to be most reliable, especially on my car that has vertical vents. It grabs the vent strong enough to not have gravity weighing the vent down, yet gentle enough without me having to worry about it leaving marks on my dashboard.

The car mount features a 17mm ball head which allows you to install any compatible base if you by any chance would like to use another one apart from the one included in the box.

Magnetic Strength

The standout feature of this mount is undoubtedly its powerful magnets. It was able to secure my iPhone using strong magnets (think MagSafe), and only once in a while does the  base make minor movements — which also means that it adapts to my usage accordingly. It’s obviously not enough to make it annoying, unlike some other car mounts I have tried in the past.

NFC Shortcuts

PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 introduces the NFC shortcuts feature, a promising addition that provides quick and convenient access to essential functions. By toggling the physical button on the base to one of the three options (Red, White, and Blue), you can select the shortcut.  While the concept is brilliant, I’ve observed that its functionality can be intermittent. When trying to add the functions into my Shortcuts on iPhone, it wasn’t a seamless process.

Throughout my usage, I don’t recall the NFC shortcuts being executed, so it is definitely not a smooth user experience. It’s a feature with immense potential, but it definitely needs a bit of refinement for optimal performance.

Compatibility

The Magez Car Mount 2 boasts wide compatibility with various smartphones, mainly around iPhone 12/13/14/15 or Samsung Galaxy S23 using an additional MagEZ Case 2 (which will add a “MagSafe” compatibility to your phone).

Pitaka MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 Review Conclusion

Despite the problem with getting the NFC shortcuts to work, PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 has become my preferred car accessory, thanks to its excellent design, magnetic capabilities, and most importantly, its sturdy hold against the air vent. While the NFC shortcuts feature adds a layer of convenience, occasional responsiveness quirks may need attention.

PITAKA MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 is also available in the Tesla Model 3/Y version which comes with a different attachment that is specifically designed for these car models.
