YouTube harder monetise video

YouTube has just made it harder for YouTubers of smaller channels to monetise their videos (i.e to earn money from YouTube videos).

On the email that I got from YouTube, this is how you can now earn money from YouTube videos:

“Under the new eligibility requirements announced today, your YouTube channel, Craving Tech, is no longer eligible for monetisation because it does not meet the new threshold of 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers.

As a result, your channel will lose access to all monetisation tools and features associated with the YouTube Partner Program on 20 February 2018 unless you surpass this threshold in the next 30 days.

Accordingly, this email serves as 30 days notice that your YouTube Partner Program terms are terminated.”

To be honest, I don’t earn much (if any) at all on my Craving Tech YouTube channel, but this news might be hard on those who only have 800 subscribers, or don’t have a threshold of 4,000 hours of video watch time in a year.

YouTube does this because they want to protect the community where anyone can’t just upload nasty videos just to get views (and loads of money) in the process.

So what happens after your monetisation tools are being taken off? Well, if you happen to grow your channel and fit the criteria/rules, your channel will then be re-evaluated by YouTube and if all is good, monetisation will be re-enabled back.
