Razer Megasoma Review

Razer Megasoma is a hybrid of a hard and a soft mouse mat; If you love the softness of a soft mat but want to have the speed of a hard mat, Razer Megasoma delivers (this is debatable and I guess more like a personal preference). Razer Megasoma sits somewhere in between, combining the best [...]

WordPress 2.5.1 Update

by Michael Aulia on 26 April, 2008

in Blogging

WordPress

An update from WordPress, claimed to fix security issues and also more than 70 bug fixes.

Highlights include:

  • Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
  • Better performance for those who have many categories
  • Media Uploader fixes
  • An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • Widget Administration fixes
  • Various usability improvements
  • Layout fixes for IE
It seems to fix my dashboard “Loading…” issues though.

As you can see from the screenshots below, I have a lot of these “Loading…” text on my dashboard and it takes forever for the feed to load. After I upgraded my WordPress from 2.5 to 2.5.1, I clicked on the “Edit” , re-saved each feed settings, and this time, the loading texts have gone for good, even after I restarted my browser. Well, all except the “Plug-in” feed.

After Upgrading to 2.5.1
After upgrading to 2.5.1

*UPDATE*: Scratch that! The problem comes back again after some hours of sleep! :(

WordPress 2.5.1 also makes the error message when uploading an image to go away.

So far so good and I’m really glad to see that WordPress is being taken care of every day by the development team.

To those who are still using Google’s Blogger system, I don’t know. I always suggest them to migrate over to WordPress :) I’m glad I made that decision after the first few weeks of blogging. I never regretted that decision ever.

Check out WordPress 2.5.1 press release here.

I updated yesterday with not one issue. There’s release notes on the many bug fixes and security hole not yet discovered, but it will be. I recommend everyone to upgrade their self hosted Wordpress.

Hi Michael:
Thanks for your email today. I replied to it and it may be in your SPAM mail once again :) . Anyway, no problem about it sent to SPAM…as I see that happening all the time.

Hopefully I won’t have too many issues with WP since I’m new to it (but then again…I might) but I’ll always keep you blog handy for reference if I do. Thanks!!!

I also have updated to 2.51 but… still get bugs, it seems they forgot to fix the upload feature, I still have to added some scripts manually to htaccess to be able to upload pictures from my computer :(

Yeah I guess it’ll still take some time for the developers to make this release as solid as possible!

Can’t really complain as we are not paying at all for this great blogging system :)

@Roel: I’d love to see WordPress 2.6 :D

It is really annoying having to upgrade so many times when you have lots of wordpress sites. Of course I’m not complaining I would rather have a Secure site than one prone to attack

You can use the Automatic WordPress Upgrade plug-in :) It’s really easy to upgrade your WordPress (kinda fun, actually)

Got to try that automatic wordpress upgrade plug-in. I got a client who is still in Wordpress 2.1. It worked fine with them and I didn’t have the time to do the upgrade. Shhhh. :-)

Not everyone can use the Automatic WordPress Upgrade plug-in. I was able to use the plugin in my personal blog but I have to manually upgrade my other sites because the plugin wont work.

That’s bad news, Rhodilee.. Luckily I can use it on mine and my other blog. But I found that I still have to re-activate the plug-ins manually at the end of the process

I hope there would be more upgrade plugins in the future other than the instant upgrade and automatic upgrade plugins. Nevertheless, manual upgrading has its perks too. I learned how to install wordpress without relying on Fantastico :-)
