Take screenshots in Games easily

Screenshot Pilot

I’m planning to put up a review about Rainbow Six Vegas 2 soon, a game that I’m currently playing. So I was trying to find a way on how to take screenshots in-game. Most of the suggestions I’ve got from Googling is to use the PrintScreen button! What the.. so you press PrintScreen, Alt-Tab from the game, paste it on your Image editor? That’s lame!

During my “treasure hunt”, I’ve finally found a freeware called: Screenshot Pilot!

Some people were suggesting to use FRAPS. It can even record a video of your gameplay! Sounds great? Yup, but the software is not free. You can use it to take screenshots, but your screenshots will have watermarks on them *ugh*.

So, back to Screenshot Pilot! It’s totally free to download and totally free to use, and totally easy!

Simply open the application, minimize it, and it will run on the system tray, waiting for you to press its Hotkey (which can be assigned)

You simply press the Hotkey when you are playing, and a screenshot will be taken on the background. You don’t even have to Alt-Tab or go out from your game. Keep doing that until you are happy (or until your computer crashes out of memory I guess, lol)

You just have to remember to change this setting before you start taking some screenshots:

All of your screenshots will be presented in tabs, and you can go through each of them by clicking on a tab, easy.

Still using the Print Screen button to take screenshots? Booo… if you have a super computer, then it’s okay. If not, prepare for some hard disk trashing sounds when you are Alt-Tabbing from the game back to the desktop :)

Use Screenshot Pilot, to grab those screenshots easily on full screen games or applications.

Some screenshots that I took while playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 in-game:

that is really easier than print screen bottom [ which i've been using for a while ]
i think the best part is that you can take as many pictures while you are playing beside it’s for free .

good find

Hey ameo,
Yeah it’s more powerful. If you only want to take a single screenshot, then I guess you can stick with the easiest and simplest method – the print screen button :D

I’ve always been using printscreen, not exactly a techno buff but it was simple enough.

But will give this a try after reading your article. Thanks!

Michael,

nowadays most games have their own built in take screen shot function and most of the time, it is assigned to the print screen key. :D

I like it when the game designers thought ahead and automatically save a screenshot in a folder when somebody hits print screen. Really smart on their parts.

People just download XFIRE, It’s a gamming messenger that allows you to take pictures and video ingame and set your own hotkey. Also for people who like q3 you can just right click in a friend in a server and join game. Also it records your time playing each game and for Q1, 2, 3 and 4 it records your stats, kills, deaths etc.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, it’s free. And you get game offers for games you can play for free.

Oh? I used Xfire before to play CounterStrike with friends (this was like a year ago or something lol).

I didn’t know it can also capture screenshots and videos in game. Thanks for sharing. Hope it’ll support Battlefield Heroes too when it’s officially out.

What a coincidence :)

Thanks for writing about this. I’ve been looking for a freeware app for this sort of thing.

I’ve heard about FRAPS, and I’ve thought about using it, but since it’s not free and like you say, watermarks pictures, I decided I would rather try Screenshot Pilot.

Another program like FRAPS, is Hypersnap or something, but it also isn’t free, and it also watermarks the caps.
