I think that you should cut this Kyle guy a bit of slack. Although he wasn't thinking too clearly about covering his tracks, you have to admit that under the circumstances, a lucid manager would recognize that he was in no shape to perform his duties, and would be doing the company a favour by taking some recuperation time.
