Razer Megasoma Review

Razer Megasoma is a hybrid of a hard and a soft mouse mat; If you love the softness of a soft mat but want to have the speed of a hard mat, Razer Megasoma delivers (this is debatable and I guess more like a personal preference). Razer Megasoma sits somewhere in between, combining the best [...]

September 2008 Traffic & Income statistics

September 2008 Google Analytics Statistics

100,000 views from a post alone

My blog’s September 2008 statistics: 91,394 visits, 151,490 Pageviews.

  • Referring Sites – 69,024 visits
  • Search Engines – 12,564 visits
  • Direct Traffic – 9,118 visits
  • Other – 688 visits

It sounds like a crazy traffic, compared to my August 2008 of 25,841 visitors in total. Before you ask me “How do you do that??”, it’s because a joke post received 107,698 page views alone (through StumbleUpon, mostly). Take that out, and there’s no element of surprise left with the numbers :)

Referring Sites traffic breakdown (Top 3):

  • StumbleUpon – 59,773 visits
  • Reddit – 2,905 visits
  • Entrecard – 2,179 visits

Income made on September 2008

  • Private Advertising – $135
  • Google AdSense – $97.22
  • ASE AdNet – $17.63
  • BuzzLogic – $10.51

A total of $260.36 making money out of this blog. Not bad at all for this month.

Interesting things happening on my blog last month

  • My post on Google Chrome love and hate was on Yahoo Buzz Front Page for a few hours. I was so excited at that time. However, it turned out that Yahoo Buzz only gave me around 800 visitors.. O_o. I was expecting more. Hopefully one day I can be on Digg’s front page. That should give me a good burst of traffic.
  • The man vs woman waking up joke post gave me around 10,000 visitors/day for 3 consecutive days. My hosting seemed to be able to cope with it, thanks to the WP-SuperCache plug-in that I installed earlier. Last time it sent my host server to its knees with that traffic lol. Make sure that you read my post on why caching is important for your blog.
  • Google took down my blog’s PageRank from PR4 to PR3 :( Although people say a PageRank means nothing, it does in terms of looking for private advertisers.

I get more inspired when I see how much average people like us make, not really much on what the big guys make.

Someday we’ll get to that level but for now I’d settle for making up for my costs and enjoying my blogging experience and making friends.

That’s an incredible amount of sustained traffic from SU, if it were on digg it would have probably been over in 24 hours.

Congratulations Mike, not bad really. 107 000? OMG!

May I ask what was the bounce rate of the SU traffic? Cause I’ve read something that they trick it to show you much better stats by visiting the page 2 times automatically…

Nice earnings but what are your expenses. I think google took your 1 PR point and gave it to my blog, lol. Now we both are at PR3. (I still don’t care about PR)

I also got a stumble service if anybody want to start a stumble reaction for your blog posts. (Service limited to a few clients a month)

One question.. what quality traffic do you get from SU?
Do they stay or just come and go?

The traffic you have is impressive. My account was suspended thrice in a matter of 3 days when I got the sudden spike of traffic from SU. Apparently I forget to enable my cache….

Though it does improve my alexa ranking, the bounce rate is pretty high from SU traffic…. they don’t stay, you agree?

Your page rank is 4 right now :D

Page rank means: Google rating, isn’t it important?

Yeah Stumble traffic doesn’t really stay long but I do get a good bounce rate. I guess the “Related Post” links do help keeping them staying for a page or two

@Kush: That’s because I don’t have any expense at all, really (apart from time and energy) – or I guess my monthly fee for web hosting

@Van: You are right! It’s back again to 4 now O_o

Mike now that you are getting decent traffic and now of ways to generate it, I would actually recommend that you buy a more sellable domain.

We can make money from Google Adsense etc, but the really money is when you sell a brand.

It’s hard to sell cravingtech.com/blog because it’s a brand associated with an actual person.

However if you had a brand name called something else with the same stats I believe you could make some good money.

Just a thought…

@Kush: Yeah, unless if you count the cost of the web hosting itself. I didn’t do any paid marketing besides Entrecard related

@Arnold: Assuming I have the time to take care more than 1 blog at the same time, that’s a very good idea :) I haven’t even posted on my other blog, http://www.writeforgod.com, for quite some time now :(

Hello Mike, congratulations for the huge traffic. I lost my traffic last September from 200 average per day to 20, I don’t know what happened… but I got a pagerank from zero to 2. I am just glad my traffic get back now, maybe not as big as yours but I think it is not bad for a new blog like mine.

By the way, congratulations for making more than $200 last month. Cheers!

@Hye Munar: From 200 to 20? Ouch that sounds bad..
Well I don’t consider my traffic big, especially without the StumbleUpon traffic..

@Arnold: lol thanks man.. but your life is supposed to be busier than mine; not to mention having a family

Wow that kind of traffic is nothing short of amazing, I’m hoping one day I can achieve those kind of figures. Maybe I should tell more jokes and use stumbleupon more xD
