Razer Megasoma Review

Razer Megasoma is a hybrid of a hard and a soft mouse mat; If you love the softness of a soft mat but want to have the speed of a hard mat, Razer Megasoma delivers (this is debatable and I guess more like a personal preference). Razer Megasoma sits somewhere in between, combining the best [...]

Uniden TRAX 5000 GPS

Even though I’ve already got a GPS software on my HTC Touch Pro 2 that has a 3D mapping and Text-To-Speech feature, I haven’t heard a stand-alone GPS unit with such features yet. On this press release, I found out that Uniden just released the TRAX 5000, a GPS unit that offers next generation 3D mapping technology and a Text-To-Speech (Spoken street names).

Here is the official press release from Uniden.

New products: GPS Car Navigation Systems
Models: TRAX 5000 and TRAX 4300
RRP: AU$349.95 and AU$249.95
Availability: 1 October 2009

Uniden takes wide-screen navigation to the next dimension

Getting from A to B is set to become even easier with the launch of two new Uniden TRAX GPS car navigation systems.

Featuring an expansive 5” flat panel non-reflective LCD screen – among the largest available – the new top-of-the-line TRAX 5000 offers next generation 3D mapping technology to provide drivers with the most realistic navigation experience currently on the market.

With 360 Degree 3D Landmark technology enabling famous locations such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Queen Victoria Building and Sky Tower to be viewed in 3D from any angle, the TRAX 5000 takes it a step further incorporating new 360 degree 3D City Maps technology which makes it possible to virtually view entire city blocks and identify key areas of interest. New 3D Terrain Software, which shows road elevations and land contours including overpasses and bridges, is another key feature.

Designed for drivers who demand exceptionally user-friendly high-quality car navigation systems, the new TRAX 5000 also utilises Advanced Lane Guidance and Signpost Information which visually indicates the most appropriate lane to use – a particularly useful feature in Australia’s busy metropolises where early lane changes can significantly reduce stress and danger.

Other key features of the new TRAX 5000 and TRAX 4300 include:

  • Spoken Street Names (TTS)
  • Latest ‘Where-is’ Australian and New Zealand mapping
  • POI Route Planning – up to 750,000 pre-programmed Points of Interest (POI) including restaurants, accommodation and more
  • ‘Where Am I’ route planning
  • Fixed speed and red light camera warnings
  • Over speed alert
  • Day and night mode that switches automatically
  • Predictive keyboard text – to reduce destination search time
  • Global mapping available

The Uniden TRAX 5000 and TRAX 4300 will be available from mid-September from leading electrical retailers and department stores.

  • TRAX 5000 5” Flat Panel GPS Car Navigation System with 360 Degree 3D Landmarks, 360 Degree 3D City Maps and 360 Degree Terrain, RRP AU$349.95
  • TRAX 4300 4.3” GPS Car Navigation System with 360 degree 3D Landmarks and 360 Degree Terrain, RRP AU$249.95

Though I would say the 3D feature can help a little, only a little as you still need to try and orientate yourself around the views and buildings and roads and all, I think lane guidance is the best for telling you exactly what lane to be in because the roads in Melbourne, especially Sydney, are horrendous. Not sure about the others…

You are right, you will have an amazing experience if you browse in 3D.

Wow spoken street names. You can record your own dialect, like a buddy on a car. The next generation 3d mapping technology would be great as so far as GPS is concern. If I can have it, then it would be amazing.

Well you can record your own voice for the generic voice such as “300 metres” “Turn left” etc. Just don’t have the time to make one lol
