A glimpse into the future, by Microsoft
Microsoft’s Business Division president, Stephen Elop, presented a video of what Microsoft thinks the tech world will be in 2019 (about a decade from now). The video was presented at Wharton Business Technology Conference.
It’s a really cool video although I’m very skeptical that these concepts won’t ever make it in 2019. Well, they are concepts after all. But the video is worth to take a look. The concepts also exist in movies such as Harry Potter, Minority Report, and Quantum of Solace.

Do you think we’ll ever see these concepts in reality? Well with those Nintendo Wii hacks and Microsoft Surface, these concepts may not be that far after all?

This is really interesting, although seems to be a little bit impossible. I love the news paper ala Harry Potter moment.
But who knows? time line between 2009 and 2019 is enough to create something.

I will check this video at home today.
I actually read a research paper proposing very similar ideas about 4 or 5 years back. The concepts aren’t too far out there, it’s basically about the pervasiveness of computers. If we can get to the point where we can make paperthin touch screen lcds for cheap and build up mesh networks on the fly, all of these concepts would be a sudden reality.
It has potential to happen, and it’s exciting.
So I guess the price then comes into play as well
With LCDs getting cheaper (but not that cheap yet), I think it’ll be some time before we see these in our homes
True Michael. But look how much cheaper other technologies have come down over the last ten years. It’s a terrible comparison but DVD players used to be hundreds of dollars, and now you can buy them for almost nothing.
It’s a promosing future, glad to see, thanks to Microsoft and Michael who let me know.
Honestly I don’t know how I missed this. I normally see microcrap’s videos right away.
Anyways, this seems reasonable. However, the electronic newspaper just seems unlikely. The idea of the newspaper likely would have been ditched and displayed on some sort of screen or projector. Other than that, I think microsoft has a pretty good vision of the future. Notice how nothing in the video was running windows =)
