Razer Megasoma Review

Razer Megasoma is a hybrid of a hard and a soft mouse mat; If you love the softness of a soft mat but want to have the speed of a hard mat, Razer Megasoma delivers (this is debatable and I guess more like a personal preference). Razer Megasoma sits somewhere in between, combining the best [...]

July 2009 Post Highlights

Not too happy with the traffic last month. I blame it on my busyness in life (for the lack of marketing towards the end of the month) and also a temporary Google de-indexing for about 2 weeks. Thankfully, an unexpected-to-be-a-killer post, “Don’t be a Darren Rowse, don’t be a John Chow”, saved this blog’s traffic a bit. Also for the first time Darren and John took notice of this blog and they re-tweeted the post. It was an honor for me but the novely wore off pretty quick (simply because this blog’s niche doesn’t really suit their readers’ taste :) ). The post itself received 720 visitors though as you can see from the graph below (mostly from Twitter):

twitter spiked traffic

It’s not much but I’m sure the post gave some sort of positive encouragement to those who read it!

I’ve also realized that traffic and money are not really everything for a blogger. As for myself, to review new technology innovations first hand, is truly what I’ve been searching for through this blog. Last month, I’ve made new connections with Razer, Ricoh, CyberStore, Logitech, ASUS, and many others. Some are willing to give review units away, which makes the reviewing process much easier for me.

What do you really after from your blog? Money? Fame?

God, you deserve more than what you get. Your blog is old and has some useful information. And did you make any money from your shop?

That’s what everyone told me. Maybe I need to change my theme to Thesis for a better SEO? (although I doubt that it’ll “cure” the traffic problem)

As for the shop, I only made $2 out of it (even from the Amazon links out of my review posts). Although honestly I’m happy enough getting the review units in exchange for the review posts, it never hurts to earn more

Better SEO might help increase your traffic a bit, but it won’t really help your conversion rates. Try mixing up the ad placement.

Ouch, that’s not a lot, clearly the monthly income can’t be the main incentive for such a blog. I suppose that the holiday period is also partly responsible for your drop in traffic.

I’m surprised to see that the suppliers give away test units, I suppose that they get lots of such requests. Keep up the good work.

Yea but he’s been working his ass off for months. He should be getting $500+

Michael Aulia 4 August, 2009 at 9:44 pm

$500? That’d be great if it’s true

Maybe I need a real consultant for this blog :D

Traffic took a blow but at least you still over the $100 mark. Keep working at it. The income levels will rise.

I’m amazed you get that much traffic. What do you do to get it? I get only a tiny fraction of that to my blog and I have content on it that’s valuable, not just this self-serving fluff or marketing stuff.

Nothing much, really. Most of the traffic come by themselves through the search engines (Google).

Social bookmarking and some sites who link back to my posts, that’s all!

Ching Ya 5 August, 2009 at 12:02 am

That’s pretty impressive, Michael. At least to me, the stats is totally desirable. Search engine is a great traffic source and sure hope to learn more about it. Just moved to WP so need to work hard on the knowledge. ^^ Wish you all the best, Michael. No worries, your stats and earning will have a better turn soon since you got some great content going.

Also, brilliant post on the “Don’t be a Darren Rowse, don’t be a John Chow”. I saw Darren tweet about it earlier, that must have got you some decent traffic there. You deserve the credit, Well done!
