January 2009 Post Highlights

Things to say

This is probably the first time that my search engines traffic has ever beaten my referring sites traffic (social bookmarking traffic). Didn’t do any SEO optimization, but a few posts popular on Google seem to help a lot to increase my search engines traffic (and also the clicks to my Google AdSense ads).

I’m still wondering how to get traffic out of Technorati though. I’ve tried putting Technorati tags in the past but it didn’t seem to bring any traffic (apart from 2-5 visits a month from Technorati). If you get a good amount of traffic from Technorati, I’d be interested to hear tips from you.

I’ve also tried to put some Amazon Affiliate Links on my iPod Nano review post. It gave around 25 clicks last month, but didn’t convert any. I guess I’m going back to using ASE Adnet ads and replace the Amazon’s one.

As always, feel free to post your traffic & income statistics here (or link to your post).

Wow, you made decent money from private advertising. I think I should try my luck on that too.

You do really well with stumbleupon which has been something I keep trying for but failing at.

Do you know why you have those three random spikes in your visits?

Those were around 1000 traffic boost from Reddit. Reddit traffic is like a once off and they’re gone. Don’t expect a good bounce rate as well

Gem February 3, 2009 at 5:17 am

Oh! Wow! You have good stumbleupon traffic. I have not figured out how to get that massive traffic from them.

And good Google traffic too – without doing SEO. I hope I can do that!

Well.. write more posts (especially those that are likely to be searched by people on Google) and you’ll get more traffic, basically :)

Brilliant stats again man;

Again after reading yours I fired up analytics;
Saw a 17% increase in SE traffic (about an extra 400 this month)
But an 18% drop in referral
Added with a 38% increase in direct/rss etc traffic brought my monthly traffic up 2.91%!

Whey hey!

Direct Income 0 but a steady amount of returning visitors (about 20%) So I am to improve this and SE traffic…all with 4hr work per week :D

Congrats again!

Wow..your stats just get better and better, dude. Excellent stats!

Jodeci February 4, 2009 at 12:43 am

Deimos, I think you could really monetize your site further. Have you considered diversifying your ad networks beyond just Google? That’s all I use right now as well and so I was curious to see why you’ve opted out of it.

Donace February 4, 2009 at 1:18 am

I would suggest a epcm banner somewhere …they pay about $1 per thousand.. so about 122$ extra

Nihar February 3, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Mike, Congrats for Search Engine traffic crossing your referral traffic. I have to also say that you have got good advertisers. Earned 100$ in private advertising thats great!

Just saw your site on the Aussie top 100 and thought I would come for a visit. Oh to be ble to get that kind of traffic would be good! The stats are really interesting. It takes a lot of commitment to get involved in the social networking sites – I just cant seem to put in the time but would like more traffic though. I have so much to learn!

Hey Lilly, welcome! Wow.. I never realize that I’m at rank 11 on the Aussie blog top 100 list!

Well I honestly can say that I haven’t spent much time in social networking sites besides submitting my posts every now and then (I’m being selective at which posts I’d submit)

Paul February 4, 2009 at 5:12 am

Nice stats. It’s good to see your search engine traffic getting up there. Most of my traffic (75-85%) comes from the search engines. I noticed that once my search engine traffic increased, so did the number of clicks on my Adsense.

You made a good amount also. Keep it up!

Well I don’t know what tips to give.. it all depends on the people who stumble or submit your posts to social bookmarking sites.. Like they always say, write good content and people will submit it to social bookmarking sites
