Razer Megasoma Review

Razer Megasoma is a hybrid of a hard and a soft mouse mat; If you love the softness of a soft mat but want to have the speed of a hard mat, Razer Megasoma delivers (this is debatable and I guess more like a personal preference). Razer Megasoma sits somewhere in between, combining the best [...]

hostgator

On Saturday, I migrated this blog from LunarPages to HostGator. It was the easiest migration ever. All I needed to do was register a new account at HostGator and asked them to migrate all my files and databases (mirror) from LunarPages to my new account at HostGator for free :D

After about an hour or two, it’s all been nicely done! I’ve switched to my older theme and the CPU usage (I can see it on HostGator cPanel) still remains in 0.1% and at most 0.2%! Beat that, LunarPages! (What’s been happening to this blog before if you missed it).

Gonna do a review on HostGator happily (I’ll wait for a few more days just in case things suddenly go wrong again) and also create a guide post on how to migrate your blog to a different hosting with zero downtime :)

UPDATE: I’ve published the HostGator review post on this blog.

Welcome back Mike! :) HostGator and Bluehost are my favorite hosting services, but i don’t know how does it work with a big site. So i’m waiting for your review. Also thank you for useful info from your post : “Find out who hosts a URL”!

Um well you can’t consider my site as a “Big” site, Van. It only gets around 1000 unique visitors a day. I have to move to a Virtual Hosting or Dedicated once the traffic soars :D

Dam right. I’m with Host Gator also and loving their quality of the service and servers.

Good move! :)

Glad that you’ve switch to hostgator. I am very happy with hostgator. Lunarpages sucks!

Last time, I migrate my blog manually to hostgator from lunarpages. A bit tedious. I should ask them to do it for me.

Yeah, man. I’m still waiting for my refund :( I’ts been a few days now. Guess they don’t like my request at all.. not even sure whether I can get a refund out of them *sigh*

Oh, you didn’t know about the free migration service provided by HostGator?

Steve Yu 2 June, 2009 at 7:45 pm

Well, actually after my account has been permanently suspended, I requested to access to my account to backup all my files. Lunarpages allowed me to access my account for just a few hours, so it was kinda of hurry. So never thought about the migration service. LOL! Actually I don’t know about it. :-)

Ah.. I guess you did the right thing then. I would have been panicked and wouldn’t try to find out about these things

What plan did you choose from host gator? With all the positive feedback you’re giving it (as well as everyone else) you should really get some sort of affiliate link with them.

I went for the Hatchling (the cheapest plan). I don’t need an extra domain name to be hosted yet. When I do, I might upgrade to the Baby one :)

As for the affiliate link, you should have noticed it when you roll over on the HostGator image ^^

Good move Mike! Definitely the complaint made by Lunarpages was not appropriate (looking at the current CPU usage on your new host) :) Let’s get the ball rolling now! Cheers!

Thanks :D Now I can focus on blogging & how to improve it rather than focusing what I should reduce to keep the server happy

Well just be careful because cheap and a good service sometimes don’t go together :) As long as there is a trial, then it’s fine. You can always move out to a better one if you find it non-amusing

They go from $7-$15 a month and you literally get everything you need. They do have sign up coupons for 20% off which makes that difference.

I can’t remember the prices off the top of my head but head over to the Host Gator site and see for yourself.

I’m on the business plan; loving the free SSL.

Michael Aulia 3 June, 2009 at 10:12 pm

@Nihar: I’ll write them in 2 posts separately, so stay tuned ;) (but no downtime during the migration)

@David Tran: Thanks David, I went for the Hatchling plan (the cheapest). Couldn’t remember how much after the 20% discount

I saw lots of thread posts from people experiencing high CPU usage at MediaTemple. Not sure whether it really is the user’s fault or the hosting to blame though
