Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this to us, Terry. I’d prefer to get 5 advertisers that pay $15 each rather than 1 advertiser that pays $30 each
It’s hard to get private advertisers though, especially if you are low on PageRank

Great post. My experience has been to sell advertisements starting at $30 per month. The site traffic supports easily the $7.50 a week. As I am approached I slightly rise in $5 increments my advertisement costs.

As one person said elsewhere, get what you can. And another said do not scare them off.

It is a hard line but I base my prices on what I am comfortable with. Besides it pays for the hosting.

Thanks for the info, but looks like alexa traffic ranking is different to that displaying on whois website.

When the time is right?

Well once you’ve got a good Alexa and PageRank, I guess (and/or your RSS feed subscriber). Those three points are good indicators of your traffic or the quality of your blog in private advertisers’ eyes.
