Facebook introduces “Nearby Friends” feature, allowing you to have a quick meet-up with friends

Have you ever walked by yourself to have a lunch and wished that a few close friends were around so you could ask them to have lunch together? You can, now (or soon, as the feature is being rolled out) on Facebook for iOS and Android.

With the latest Facebook’s new feature, “Nearby Friends“, you can find out who is nearby on the go and send them your precise location with a note.

To some, this would cause major privacy issues. After all, there are times when you feel like being alone or don’t want your friends to know where you are. Thankfully, this is an opt-in feature, so it will not be turned on by default. You are free to turn it off any time.

Even when it’s turned on, your location will also be proximity based (such as x miles away), rather than having an exact location on the map. You can later on, if you wish, share your exact location to a selected friend for a certain amount of time (for X hours, for example). This will allow you to arrange a meet-up.
