Dear Windows users, remove Apple QuickTime now

Apple QuickTime

Apple QuickTime was one of the most popular media players around way back. One of the reasons was because it’s the only player that could play .MOV files (QuickTime movie files)  or play certain movie trailers or videos on some websites.

However, time has changed and you no longer need to have it installed on your machine (but you probably can’t be bothered removing it). According to a recent report, you’d be better to act now and take QuickTime off your machine for security reasons.

The Department of Homeland Security found several critical vulnerabilities within that can be devastating to your PC and since Apple no longer supports it (i.e will not release any more updates to fix them), it’s best for you to remove it completely.

How to remove/uninstall QuickTime on a Windows machine

If you have a Windows 7/8/10, simply type “add remove” to display the “Add or Remove Programs” on the Start Menu. Select it and then search for “QuickTime” under the “Type an app name” search field or find it in the list. Uninstall it.

If you are doing video editing work, however, you may find the reliance of having QuickTime installed is still quite strong.

For most users, QuickTime will not be missed and no longer necessary to have.

Goodbye, QuickTime.
